i think i'm going to bring my family along...RM50 for each of us...so total is RM 150.

Working parents (ie. you and your husband) are not eligible for Eid Money!!!:giggling:

When i was in Uni i was so grateful that for all the eid money that people have given it to me. :)

Yeah... when I was in the uni. the minimum eid money I've got is RM10.00. maximum RM200.00

Hello glo,

I hope I'm not derailing the thread here, but on the other side of the coin, what would be an appropriate gift for a Muslim to give a non-Muslim on Eid? I guess it would have to be something neutral like sweets or the gift vouchers as people mentioned earlier... would you feel happy to accept such gifts?
That's a good question, Muhammed. Of course I would be happy to receive such a gift. :)

My Muslim in-laws give my son a toy or gift card because they don't want him to feel left out. Last year my brother-in-law also slipped me some cash for Eid. I was very shocked. I guess he didn't want me to feel left out either!

I must protest . I always said the parents and grandparents are the most qualified people to spend the money ;D

:sl:

I also have a question regarding Eid gifts. (Forgive me, if i'm off topic)
Allahul musta'an, is this something people themselves have integrated into Eid, or is it sunnah?

Cards, gifts (on special occasions)? Wa Allahu A'lam.

Can anyone please clarify?

Jazakum Allah alkhair Insha'Allah.

Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:

On the day of `Eid, there are some Sunnah acts that we should do, among which are the following:

1. Engage in takbir (saying “Allahu akbar”) from fajr until the imam comes out for salah. Takbir is recommended for males, females, young and old.

2. It is also important to make sure to pay zakat Al-Fitr before the salah. Ideally, it should be given in advance so that the poor can enjoy their `Eid.

3. Appear in the best clean clothes dress that you can afford to, that are reasonable and modest.

4. It is recommended to go early to the prayer place.

5. And most importantly, to wish every one the joy of `Eid and show true signs of Islamic brotherhood by shaking hands and embracing and supplicating: “Taqabal Allahu Minna wa Minkum” (May Allah accept it from us and you).

6. It is also considered a good Islamic practice to visit one another and exchange gifts. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Exchange gifts in order to foster love."

7. Remember the true spirit of `Eid is reflected in our extreme generosity to the poor and the needy. So, be charitable as best as you can.

8. Make lots of istighfar (asking Allah for forgiveness) and pray that Allah accept our fast, prayers and devotion, and may He grant the Ummah glory and success.

office party ...

Today we decided at work to have a bring-and-share office lunch next Monday to mark the end of Ramadan.
It will not be a real Eid celebration, of course, but still a celebration with our Muslim colleague. Perhaps we are all feeling for her, having missed out on so many sweets and treats in the office over the last month! Now we can share our goodies with her again! :D

Funnily enough, our Muslim colleague doesn't know about this yet, as she has been off work since last week. I hope she will like the idea ...

Peace

Abdullah, Kitty's suggestion is a good one.
Why not just bring a treat into your class (providing that's premitted) and tell your friends it's your way of celebrating Eid.
It's quite difficult to say no to a gift made in friendship, you know ... :)
