Forum problems

:sl:

^ What kind of problem are you facing?

It's like the forum is frozen and nobody's writing. I see the same threads since yesterday. I have to refresh several times or go to the different sections and just then I see that pple post things or reply.

Yes, the user activity on the forum has dropped very low. Please use the Today's Posts search from the top to find out the updated threads.

I cannot seem to post new topics. A dialog box keeps popping up which says "Edit Conversation: Empty Response". I hope this is only a temporary glitch.

Guys, sorry but i feel this forum has died.

So much for upgrades and stuff... keeping things simple is always good. all these extra functions on the web are unneccessary and cause more problems than they're worth, sure you'll agree.

I log in, and see that usually these days I'm the only one logged in, or maybe another member is also here - or maybe a mod... but no more than 3 members ever online since the site came back up?

I think my time is done here.

May I express my thanks and heartfelt gratitude to all the brothers and sisters I have had the pleasure to connect with. May Allah reward you all with the good of both, this world and the next, Ameen.

Keep smiling guys,

Assalaam alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,

Scimitar - out

I don't think forum is dead , it was in ICU lol and it's improving and much better now :statisfie

So , bro pl. don't go . InshaAllah see u around .

Assalamu alaikum. I am feeling the same way. I used to love coming here and there were always lively discussions going on. Yet now it seems like there is more going on in 5 minutes over on Ummah forum than on here over an entire week.

And to further emphasize the point in just a matter of minutes after I made the above post, IB forums went down and I could not access anything.

Assalamu-alaikum,

Search function does not find most posts, even when provided the exact heading/ subject. Makes it extremely difficult to find previous posts.

Apologies for the delayed reply. I certainly do agree that keeping things simple is good, and I am not a fan of extra functions etc. I miss the days when there was a lot more going on. However, it could be a blessing in disguise, to help us spend less time on some of those futile discussions and free up time for more productive activities. The other thing is, if I remember correctly, activity had diminished significantly even before the upgrade, so perhaps this is part of the life cycle of a forum... many people simply move on and when so many discussions have taken place, there is little that is new. Things can go either way though. The forum is what we collectively make it, bi'ithnillah.

To all those who have visited here, may we the moderators also express our gratitude and at the same time ask forgiveness for our mistakes and shortcomings. May Allaah :swt: guide us all to that which is good and keep us away from all that which will not benefit, Aameen.

And to further emphasize the point in just a matter of minutes after I made the above post, IB forums went down and I could not access anything.
I am sorry to hear these problems are still occurring. If you continue experiencing problems with the forum going down, try sending an email to the islamicboard email :ia:.

You could try using google instead, by writing the name of the forum and the name of the thread... others might be able to recommend a more sophisticated approach!

Write in google search bar: (subject/title) site:islamicboard.com

In example, if you want to find thread/post related to Palestine, then type: palestine site:islamicboardcom

^ JazakAllahu khair,

That does work if one knows the exact name of thread.

However, to find threads/ posts by keywords is very difficult, via google as well.

With regards to our search engine, as an example:
There are many posts here that include the late maulana Yunus Patel (ra) - by myself and others. Yet if one has to type in the name "Yunus Patel" in the search engine, it detects no entries at all.

We may have to rebuild the search index once again. Rebuilding the search index is a server intensive process and can take anywhere from a few hours to 1-2 days. The forum can become very slow during that time and sometimes it might be inaccessible. Also, I will need fast and uninterrupted connection to the forum while running this process. It can be done in batches and decreasing the batch size reduces the server load and increases the overall time.

I will try to do it later once I am able to keep a dedicated computer connected to IB for a long time, :ia:. Till then, please use the Google search.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused. :jz:

^ Ok....while you are on-line, please help: I'm currently trying to create a new thread in the World Affairs section.

I'm receiving an error message: 'Empty Response'. :exhausted

:jz:

Sorry, I was on mobile at that time and didn't notice your reply.

I have just tested a new thread with the Test User and it seems like it was a temporary glitch. Please try posting again now.

^ I've tried again.....I'm still experiencing the same problem.

I don't know, this is only in my computer or in other member computers too. But since this forum back to old template, Arabic letters in posts turn into 'symbol' like this:

عبدالله بن Ø£Ø*مد أبو الخير 1285 – 1343 هـ

^ It has happened for all the posts which were posted on the vB5 version. It seems like the Arabic encoding did not transfer properly from there. We will have to edit all such posts and re-write the Arabic text in them.
