getting internet on new laptop

i have just bought a new laptop and wanted to know how i can get the internet on it as i have never done it before. Could you please give me the step to step instructions.

these are some question that need to be asked first;
1. is you laptop Wifi enabled.
2. do you have access to an wireless internet connection (your own or a neighbors)

1. Do you want to connect via LAN?

2. Do you want to connect via W-LAN (Wireless-Lan, WiFi)????
