Giving The Quraan To A Christian
Ash Shaykh Al ‘Alaamah ‘Abdul ‘Azeez ibn Baaz (رحمه الله)


Question: If a Christian asks me for a copy of the Quraan, should I give it to him?

Answer: You should not give it to him, you should read the Quraan to him, let him hear it, call him to Allaah and pray that Allah guides him for the saying of Allaah Ta’aalah in his Book:

{And if anyone of the Mushrikoon (polytheists) seeks your protection then grant him protection so that he may hear the Word of Allaah (the Quraan) and then escort him to where he can be secure,…} [At Tawbah: 6]
Also for the saying of the Messenger:

“Do not travel with the Quraan to the lands of the enemies so that they do not touch it.”
This proves that a Kaafir is not to be given a copy of the Quraan for fear that he will degrade/demean or fool around with it. But he should be taught, the Quraan should be read to him and he is to be advised and Du’aa (supplication) is to be made for him. If he accepts Islaam then he is to be given a copy of the Quraan.

There is no problem in giving him a book of Tafseer or a book of Hadeeth or a translation of the meanings of the Quraan if he wants to benefit from that.

didnt sister of Umar (RA) bin Khattab gave him the verses of surah Taha though?

yeh.. buh before she gave it she asked them to perform wudhu and she made him promise that he wouldn't do nothin bad. umar (ra) already felt guilty because they had made their sister bleed (on the face) already and they never wanted to do nothin bad because they had calmed down.

This means that a arab christian, who only speaks arab language, can't read the Qur'an by him self. He should wait until a muslim read it all for him:? This is tough. The Qur'an is a massage for all humanity.
 
I know christians and even athiests who own a copy of the Holy Quran, as many my fear is they will not show the respect that should be shown towards the Holy Quran, then again the Holy Quran is under the protection of Allah SWT till it remains on this earth till the day of ressurection, once the day comes Allah SWT will raise the Holy Quran to the heavens.
 
I own an English translation of the Quran and I treat it like any other book because it’s a translation and not the Quran. The binding is wearing and the pages are creased, not from heavy reading mind you >.< mostly from storage with all my other books. But if I ever came in the possession of a real Quran I would endeavor to show it the same care and respect as would a Muslim.
 
as we are on the topic, is it permissible to give cures like ruqyah to non muslims? :D:D because i think of it as, if you wana benefit from islam, then join it :p or is that wrong, because quite a lot of my mateys say you can and should give it to non muslims, so it mite lighten up their hearts and they may accept islam:D

any thoughts :D

I was taught that the Qu'ran and the Mus-haf were two different things. The Qu'ran which most of us use, in which it contains the translation into the language we speak, is not really considered in the same manner as the Mus-haf. The Mus-haf, or the pure Qu'ran, has not ben tainted with a language other than Arabic. I'm not saying this to say it is okay to give a Christian a Qu'ran which has been translated, but only to make a point. I'm am going to ask someone of knowledge this same question, but in the light of the point I just made.
 
I stand partially corrected. I think you'll understand after you read the rulings. I am clear on the matter now.

Part 1


Question:

It is allowed to translate the Qur’an to French, for example, to be read by the unbelievers meanwhile, Allah says?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

No translation can resemble the Qur’an in precision of expressions, highness of style, or beauty of composition. Nor is it possible to reflect the miraculous nature of the Qur’an, fulfill all its goals in illustrating rules, principles and etiquette or indicate the lessons and primary and secondary meanings deduced from it. Any one who tries to do so is trying in vain.

People of Knowledge can express what they have understood from the meanings of the Qur’an in other languages to help the speakers of these languages get the ideas, even though they are not ultimate. But this is not considered to be Qur’an; it could be classified as belonging to illustrations. Therefore, unbelievers can touch such books.

Question:


I am trying to convert some Christians and "Free thinkers" into Islam and they seem to be interested in knowing what is in the Qur'an. They have both read the Bible and they believe it is Holy, but with contradictions. I, however told them that the Qur'an unlike the Bible has no contradictions in it and that it contains all the information about this World and the hearafter that they need to know. They are however yet to believe.As a method of proving this, I was going to buy them each a copy of the Holy Qur'an translated by Muhammad Asad. They have promised to read it and tell me what they think. Do you think this is a good idea?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

A translation of the meanings of the Qur’aan is not considered to be Qur’aan, and it does not have the same status in all aspects. Rather it is like a tafseer (commentary, exegesis) of the Qur’aan in Arabic, which explains the meanings and assists in understanding. On this basis, it is permissible to give the kuffaar a translation of the meanings of the Qur’aan, without the Arabic text, and it is permissible for them to touch a tafseer in Arabic.

On this basis, it is permissible for you to give them this translation. May Allaah help us and you to call people to His way in a good manner. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad.

Question:

Is it permissible to give for Da'wah to the non-Muslims a translation of the meanings of the Qur'aan which accompanies the original Arabic text as well?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah.

We put this question to Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen: what is the ruling on giving a kaafir a copy of the Qur’aan containing the text in Arabic and a translation and commentary amounting to half of the content?

He replied, may Allaah preserve him:

“What is known among the scholars is that it is not permissible to give a kaafir power over the Qur’aan (i.e., put it at his disposal), but if a kaafir is sincere in his desire to know more about the Qur’aan, a person can invite him to come to a library – either a public library or his own home library, where he can show him the Qur’aan.”

If you find a translation of the meanings of the Qur’aan without the Arabic text then there is nothing wrong with giving that to a kaafir. And Allaah knows best.

Just imagine, umar who was known as a fierce one could be soft and gentle after listening Quran. but, i still in puzzle why the recitation cannot reach deep into our heart nowadays? unfortunately, people prefer to listen music rather than Quran recitation.
