Guantanamo: Free Shaker Aamer E-Petition

Dear brothers and sisters,

It has come to my attention that there is an 'e-petition' created within the UK and an 'international petition' for the rest of the world to sign to help free the last remaining Uk citizen in guantanamo bay back to the Uk and help reunite him with his family, you can watch videos on the brother's story on youtube by typing:

Please could you all get every family member and friends and even the public to sign the epetitions and inshallah we can hopefully get the needed 100,000 signatures before the closing date on April 2013. Both petitions are on the right of this webpage:

The top petition link is the UK one and just below it is the 'international petition'. Please note: for the UK petition you will need to make or use an email address as a confirmation link will be sent to the email address to verify support. If need be, please create with permission email addresses for family or friends or the public who wish their name and details to be on the petition as we need your help! It is important that UK citizens only sign the UK petition and the rest of the world the international petition only. Here are the direct links:

Go to the 'care2petition site' and type 'Shaker Aamer' in the search engine and his petition will come up for you to sign on the right. Or type 'Release Shaker Aamer from Guantanamo Bay'.


As a few million muslims in the UK and 100s of millions in the world, it is a great shame that we cannot even manage to get 100,000 signatures for the UK petition or even 10,000 for the international petition. So please do your bit and all can sign, young or old and help them sign up if necessary. Ask at work, school etc... for all to sign and if we can get higher than the required number of signatures needed, that will be even better!

If you would like to help then please go to the website: saveshaker.org

You can download a 'paper petitions' to collect signatures from friends and family and the public at work or home or school and if you contact this websites admin they can send you leaflets and posters too and tell you how once you have collected many signatures, then you can send them to the sites admins at the 'contact us' address who will add the names to the epetition list themselves and also even if emails are not provided, they can still use the names.... but ask first.

Jazakallah to all and Islamic Board for allowing us to post the appeal here. This is not a time for us as muslims to stay silent, we must help one another or things will only get worse. If any radio or tv stations can also broadcast the appeal then please do so.

Inshallah we will do it!

JazakAllahu khair for providing us these important reminders.

I have alot of respect for all those who have dedicated their time and effort in creating awareness and petitioning for our brothers and sisters who have been unlawfully detained.

Many of us, as myself - feel helpless/ powerless and frustrated at the knowledge of the incredible human rights violations that our brothers and sisters are enduring across the world......yet we do not have the means/ have no idea how we can (really) make a difference.

Ive been to the website: muslimprisoners.com - and their suggested ways of helping include:

1. Making dua'a
2. Emailing letters of support
3. Greeting card writing workshops
4. Sponsor a muslim prisoner
5. Helping their families
6. Creating awareness


Duaá is certainly our greatest weapon.

But Ive been wondering....are our physical efforts actually producing any fruit?
e.g. of the many petitions that are/ have taken place, mainly in the UK - what actually becomes of these?

Its now 10 years since the plight of Sr Aafia Siddiqui, and still we seem to be no closer to achieving her freedom ;'(..... Allah knows best.


What else can we do?
How can we strengthen our efforts......are we doing enough?

e.g. Despite the on-line information that exists about our brothers and sisters who are detained......why is it still not getting more media coverage?
I dont own a TV, so perhaps Im unaware.....but are these stories making the news headlines anywhere in the world?
I certainly dont hear of it over the radio/ read about it in our newspapers....

How can we place more pressure on the media and on our governments?

So the Awareness week has finished with a great bang collecting 50,000 signatures, but we still need another 50,000 within the next 4 weeks. Can we do it? Of course! But we need your support.

I have just signed, the total is now 51,011 so you just need another 49,000, everybody is entitled to a fair trial. If this has not happened in ten years it suggests a lack of evidence, so he should be released.

There was a story about Shaker Aamer on al-Jazeera. About ideas for what more we could do, it's hard, because the people who care tend to be very widely dispersed and it's not easy to organize. The only thing I could think of is that local Muslims could get together and make a kind of demonstration/raise awareness in their community, and maybe tell their local member of parliament that we want them to do something about it - I think if you get enough people involved they have to bring it up in Parliament. As for the press, maybe you could organise a lecture on the subject, make sure it is well publicized and tell the press about it.

The only thing I don't like about those ideas is that it feels like going along with their rules - but I don't know what else we can do. Apart from du3a, of course.

Sometimes I wish the muslims could just unite - thousands of us together - storm into Guatanamo and other prisons and physically remove our brothers and sisters from the hands of the kuffaar.....
Or does this only happen in the movies?

Its hard to get ones mind around the concept - that we have a sister who we know is being physically and sexually violated for YEARS - and we cant do anything about it!
I try to place myself in her shoes - how must she be feeling after so many years in prison.....does she (and the other muslim prisoners) feel let down by this ummah?

Its just too heart-breaking.....

Back in my country, we have had demonstrations and protests, etc.
Unfortunately, it seems to last for a few hours......but in the long run, nothing really comes of it.

At the end of the day, and many years later, our brothers and sisters are still behind bars, many still awaiting trial......many of whom we have never even heard of.....


May Allah (subhanawataála) grant them immense sabr through their incredible trials, and give us the hidayat and strength to overcome the schemes of the kuffaar.

This will unfortunately not happen until..well we do the slightest efforts ourselves. Change yourself, and your community. I have alot of regret for letting the kufar and munafiqeen torturing, arresting, raping our brothers and sisters. I can't do much aside from making dua which is very good also, but if i had the means, the courage, imaan i would do take action. Unfortunately we dont have that, and most of us wont even do the slightest effort to regain that.

but Alhamdulillah, i am still young, 17 so have enough time to correct myself and to take action. Infact, starting today would be a good thing.

And remember sis that we are also oppressed in some way. I hope you get what i am saying.

Assalamu Alaykum,

What we simply must do is all that is in our means to defend and release our brothers and sisters whom have been detained without just cause and that is all that is asked of us and for which we shall be accountable- Allaah azza wa jall is to be relied on solely as truly he is the all wise and the mighty and from his infinite wisdom and will will be the outcome.

Have sabr, never lose heart in your efforts, make du'aa Allaah accepts all that we do and if today we find not matters to our preference know that Allaah azza wa jall does whatever he wills for the best though we may not ourselves not understand.

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said: "Whoever Allaah wants good for him, he puts them to test. He puts them through difficulties. Like a diamond or some metal that has to be burnt and then that which is bad from it is removed so that you have that which is the pure diamond or the pure gold or whatever. Put them to tests, trials and difficulties." (Saheeh al Bukhari and Muslim)

I have no doubt in the plans of Allah (subhanawataála) for each and everyone of us.
Alhamdulillah, in my own life, it is the only thing that keeps me seeing the positive.

I think my point is: while we place our trust in Allah Taa'la, it is also encumbent on us to make a sincere effort in all that we do.

While I acknowledge and praise the efforts of all those who have been/ are ernestly striving in this particular cause......I wonder if we are doing enough?

What else can we do, to lay full-on pressure on our governments, the UN, etc?
What else can we do, to get more media coverage on the plight of these prisoners, the unfairness of their trials, etc?

Are we doing the same thing over the last decade......but expecting to get different results?

At which point do we say, the time for speaking and petitioning is over.......its time to get up in arms (not necessarily in the literal sense), for our voices to be heard?

I come from a country that only saw aparteid and the oppression of all non-white residents being (completely) over-turned in 1994.
After decades of protests, sanctions, etc - the only thing that broke this country free, was the threat of unrest and civil war in the early 1990's.

Is it not time to step up the efforts a notch? - for the sake of our brothers and sisters.....

Just some of my thoughts.....

Jazak'illaah for the advice and thoughts- just to be clear I wasn't at all suggesting in the slightest that you have doubts as to the decree of Allaah azza wa jall.

Indeed we have to maintain amal (action) with tawakkul (trust and reliance) on Allaah. What you related reminds me of the following ahadith:

Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) reported: A man said, “O Messenger of Allaah, should I tie my camel and trust in Allaah, or should I untie her and trust in Allaah?” The Messenger of Allaah, (صلى الله عليه و سلم), said, “Tie her then trust in Allaah.”
(The narration is considered Hasan, Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Book of the Resurrection, Number 2517)

American policy on "terrorism" is idiotic. Do you seriously think a petition will make the government think? And how about Aafia Siddiqui, she has been raped and beaten constantly in U.S. custody. Wake up and realize that there is no peaceful way to free any innocent Muslim in any U.S prison.
