I think they only did the search thingy in the ethnic-Malay majority provinces like Pattani, Narrathiwat and Yala which are situated in the southern Thailand.

Pattaya is situated in the central region of Thailand (very near to Bangkok) and most Muslims in the central region are ethnic Thais or Siamised Malays. The Muslims in other provinces (like 70 provinces) are well assimilated and integrated with the Buddhists majority...and very active in Islamisation of the Buddhists too...
