Fasting - 9th Ramadan 1433 (28th July 2012)

Narrated Al-Bara (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

It was the custom among the companions of Muhammad (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa
Sallam) that if any of them was fasting and the food was presented (for breaking his fast), but he slept before eating, he would not eat that night and the following day till sunset.

Qais bin Sirma-al-Ansari was fasting and came to his wife at the time of Iftar (breaking one's fast) and asked her whether she had anything to eat.
She replied, "No, but I would go and bring some for you."

He used to do hard work during the day, so he was overwhelmed by sleep and slept.

When his wife came and saw him, she said, "Disappointment for you." When it was
midday on the following day, he fainted and the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi
Wa Sallam) was informed about the whole matter and the following verses
were revealed: "You are permitted To go to your wives (for sexual relation) At the night of fasting."

So, they were overjoyed by it.

And then Allah also revealed: "And eat and drink Until the white thread Of dawn appears to
you Distinct from the black thread (of the night)." (2.187)

Fasting - 11th Ramadan 1433 (30th July 2012)

Narrated 'Abdullah (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) fasted for days continuously;
the people also did the same but it was difficult for them. So, the Prophet
(Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) forbade them (to fast continuously for more
than one day).

They said, "But you fast without break (no food was taken in
the evening or in the morning)."

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam)
replied, "I am not like you, for I am provided with food and drink (by
Allah)."

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 93, Number 470:
Narrated Mu'adh bin Jabal:

The Prophet SAW said, "O Mu'adh! Do you know what Allah's Right upon His slaves is?" I said, "Allah and His Apostle know best." The Prophet SAW said, "To worship Him (Allah) Alone and to join none in worship with Him (Allah). Do you know what their right upon Him is?" I replied, "Allah and His Apostle know best." The Prophet SAW said, "Not to punish them (if they do so)."

Hadith Qudsi 18:
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) will say on the Day of Resurrection:
O son of Adam, I fell ill and you visited Me not. He will say: O Lord, and how should I visit You when You are the Lord of the worlds? He will say: Did you not know that My servant So-and-so had fallen ill and you visited him not? Did you not know that had you visited him you would have found Me with him? O son of Adam, I asked you for food and you fed Me not. He will say: O Lord, and how should I feed You when You are the Lord of the worlds? He will say: Did you not know that My servant So-and-so asked you for food and you fed him not? Did you not know that had you fed him you would surely have found that (the reward for doing so) with Me? O son of Adam, I asked you to give Me to drink and you gave Me not to drink. He will say: O Lord, how should I give You to drink whin You are the Lord of the worlds? He will say: My servant So-and-so asked you to give him to drink and you gave him not to drink. Had you given him to drink you would have surely found that with Me.

It was related by Muslim.

Fasting - 14th Ramadan 1433 (2nd August 2012)

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "If somebody eats or drinks forgetfully then he should complete his fast, for what he has eaten or drunk, has been given to him by Allah."

Narrated 'Amir bin Rabi'a, "I saw the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) cleaning his teeth with Siwak while he was fasting so many times as I can't count."

And narrated Abu Huraira, "The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, 'But for my fear that it would be hard for my followers, I would have ordered them to
clean their teeth with Siwak on every performance of ablution."

The same is narrated by Jabir and Zaid bin Khalid from the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) who did not differentiate between a fasting and a nonfasting
person in this respect (using Siwak).

Aisha (Radi-Allahu 'anha) said, "The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "It (i.e. Siwak) is a purification for the mouth and it is a way of seeking Allah's pleasures."

Ata' and Qatada said, "There is no harm
in swallowing the resultant saliva."

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

While we were sitting with the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) a man
came and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have been ruined."

Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) asked what was the matter with him. He

Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) asked him, "Can you afford to manumit a slave?" He replied in the negative.

Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) asked him, "Can you fast for two successive
months?"

He replied in the negative.

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) asked him, "Can you afford to feed sixty poor persons?" He replied in the negative.

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) kept silent and while we were in that state, a big basket full of dates was brought to the
Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam).

He asked, "Where is the questioner?"

He replied, "I (am here)."

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said (to him), "Take this (basket of dates) and give it in charity."

The man said, "Should I give it to a person poorer than I? By Allah; there is no family between its (i.e. Medina's) two mountains who are poorer than I."

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) smiled till his pre-molar teeth became visible and then said, 'Feed your family with it."

Fasting - 24th Ramadan 1433 (12th August 2012)

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) used to practice Itikaf (in the masjid) in the middle third of Ramadan and after passing the twenty nights he used to go back to his house on the 21st, and the people who were
in Itikaf with him also used to go back to their houses.

Once in Ramadan, in which he practiced Itikaf, he established the night prayers at the night in which he used to return home, and then he addressed the people and
ordered them whatever Allah wished him to order and said,

"I used to practice Itikaf for these ten days (i.e. the middle 3rd but now I intend to stay in Itikaf for the last ten days (of the month); so whoever was in
Itikaf with me should stay at his place of seclusion.

I have verily been shown (the date of) this Night (of Qadr) but I have forgotten it.

So search for it in the odd nights of the last ten days (of this month). I also saw myself (in the dream) prostrating in mud and water."

On the night of the 21st, the sky was covered with clouds and it rained, and the rain-water started leaking through the roof of the masjid at the praying place of the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam).

I saw with my own eyes the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) at the completion of the morning prayer
leaving with his face covered with mud and water.
