“Nor kill or destroy yourselves: for verily Allah has been to you Most Merciful!” (Quran, 4:29)

so if a person has not gone to the doctor knowing he/she has a disease does that count in harming ones body

If someone knowingly harms or allows harm to come upon himself with little or no intention to remove the problem (disease in this case), then its not so different to causing harm.
