Hello everyone :)

I am a year 12 student and I am searching for someone who would be willing to participate in a short interview for one of my assignments. It consists of me asking only 5 questions that are about how you relate to people of other faiths in Australia. For example, i might ask something like whether you are aware of the tensions between members of the Catholic and Muslim religon, and what solutions you can offer to decrease this conflict.

I need someone who would be able to answer me in a clear and concise way, as i may require you to answer my questions quite thoroughly. Anyone who is willing to participate, PLEASE can you reply to this thread and let me know as soon as possible! This assignment is due very soon so i would very much appreciate a speedy reply.

I may also agree on condition that a mod agrees to check your ip against existing members and confirms it to be unique.

A difficulty here is we discourage the exchange of email addresses among members, especially those that are exchanged between different genders.

Just a suggestion, perhaps you could post your questions and those who desire to participate can reply on the thread.

xX-nat-xX G-day :P lol :giggling: (sorry couldn't resist) I am very sorry I cannot help you with your assignment because I can not give you detailed answers to some of the questions you have, as I am sort of thick in my knowlegde of foreign muslims:statisfie:. Here are my questions...anyone who cares to answer them, please do it to the best of your ability. Thank you very much!


1). The central focus of this interview is to determine your views on the issue of interfaith dialogue, that is, how you communicate with, understand, view and judge people of various other religious faiths.
During your time in Australia, have you become aware of any tension or conflict between members of the Catholic, Buddhist and Muslim faith? Please give examples if possible.


2). From your own experience, do you believe we live in a tolerant society where everyone is able to communicate their views freely, without the fear of being criticised?


3). Have YOU ever been in a situation where you have been judged, criticised or discriminated against, solely because you belong to the Islamic faith? If so, how did you feel and react at the time and what kind of impact, if any, did this encounter have on your faith?

4). Why do you think there is conflict in our society and how important do you think it is to find a solution to this issue?


5). Are you aware of any efforts made by religious leaders or organisations that have been successful in bridging the gap between differing religious faiths? Do you think enough is being done to address this issue and if not, what solutions can you offer?

These are the views of a Texas Cowboy living in Austin. Austin is probably the most tolerant city in the world so this may not be indicative of all Americans and probably not even true of all Texans.

I can not speak of Australia, but here in Austin there are no distinct areas that are predominately of one faith with the exception of one area in the northern part of the city that is predominantly Bhuddist. The Mosque I attend most often is located in that community and we have no problems. There is also a Baptist Church alongside the Mosque and since we no longer have adequate parking space for the Mosque, the Church allows us to use their parking lot during Jummah.

In Austin we do. However, Austin may be unique. Based on current census information more people identify themselves as being Non-Christian than Christian. However, the largest number of people simply refuse to answer such questions on any forms. Here it is illegal to require people to answer questions regarding, Race, religion or national origin.

Not in Austin, but did run into some problems when I lived in an area where there was less than 10 Muslims in the entire county. It had no impact on me. I am a revert to Islam and at one time I also held some of the same views that they had, so I feel I have a little insight as to why misunderstandings occur.

Here in Austin, it is very common for the religious leaders to work together in such things as bringing about restrictions that relate to things like Alcohol and tobacco sales, pornography, discrimination etc. There is even an interfaith group that is working to bring relief to Palestinians in Palestine. Just this past summer they sent a delegation of Jewish woman to Gaza to bring aid to the people of Gaza and to protest the Israeli treatment of Palestinians.

Unfortunately the information i obtain must strictly relate to those who live/have lived in Australia. However your response has given me a few ideas for a report i must also write! Thank you very much!!

It is an active link and will work from where ever you put it. Similar to the links to Youtube etc.

It will be of no use to members here unless they have joined that forum.
