Help for GCSE Students

wa alaikum assalam

Are they still doing modules?? I thought they stopped?

Anyways, it's really easy. Do you have your white syllabus book for science?

:sl:

yeah they are still doing the modules imsad....and whats the white book thingamajig :?

:w:

:sl:

Yh same here I got 3 Modules in about 2 weeks or so and i still aint revised anything. :)

:sl:

this biomass thingamajig and that food web and all that...not to mention the speed/time/dstace graphs, braking/stopping distace....they just do my head in :-\

:w:

:sl:

use the triangle...that's like 3 in 1 and kinda easier to remember...but then again you could use logic...as in why does work = force x mass...and that would be easier to remember...and when asked for mass for a given force and work done, then you could calculate by re-thingying the equation...that's kinda easy...well it seems easy when am explaining...but when i got the paper in front i go all cross eyes :-\

how about listing all the formulae as a brainstorm kind of thing here so that it would be a sort of help i think :?
:w:

Lol.. when you go back to school, as your teacher if you could have the syllabus for your subject. and just learn that off by heart.

secondly, do lotsssssssssssss and lots of past papers. We used to revise off them in school and man do they help a lot or what! Sometimes you just get a copy of a past question and that happened in 2 of my papers! :)

formulae... just learn them and remember when you need to use them. It might help remembering them if you practise on them.

If you don't understand anything, just give a shout. :)

salam,

I have a test in a few days time, called the BMAT ( Biomedical Admissions Test - http://www.bmat.org.uk/index.html ).

As part of the test, I am required to know the Physics formulae at GCSE level - so I have listed all the formulae I could gather below.

Please let me know if I have missed any:

Pressure = Force / Area

Power = Voltage x Current

Voltage = Current x Resistance

Energy Transferred = Power x Time

Cost of Electricity = Units of Electricity x Price Per Unit

Force = Mass x Acceleration

Weight = Mass x Gravity (9.81 N/kg)

Speed = Distance / Time

Velocity = Displacement / Time

Acceleration = (Final Velocity - Initial Velocity) / Time

Moment = Force x Distance

Kinetic Energy = 0.5 x Mass x Velocity^2

Gravitational Potential Energy = Mass x Gravity (9.81 N/kg) x Height

Work Done = Force x Distance

Power = Work Done / Time

Frequency = 1 / (Time-Period of 1 Oscillation of Wave)

Velocity of a Wave = Frequency x Wavelength

Efficiency = (Work Done / Useful Energy Out) / Total Energy In

Charge = Current x Time

Energy Transferred = Voltage x Charge

Voltage Across Primary Coil                Number of Turns on Primary Coil
________________________    =    _____________________________

Voltage Across Secondary Coil           Number of Turns on Secondary Coil

Kinetic Energy = 0.5 x Mass x Velocity^2

i dont understand that...why 0.5 :confused:

and if you could also explain this potential energy and gravitational potential energy...i mean whats the difference :?...and is there a different formula for potential energy?

:w:

salam,

the " 0.5 x " part means: " half times.. " , or " 1/2 times.. ". I just wrote the half (1/2) as '0.5' because I thought it was convenient to do so.

I think 'Potential Energy' and 'Gravitational Potential Energy' (GPE) are both referring to the same thing at GCSE level (GPE is a type of Potential Energy), though there are apparently also other types of 'Potential Energy' (not relevant to GCSE).

Gravitational Potential Energy is the energy something gains / has stored in it, when it is 'lifted up' / due to its height above the earth's surface.

eg. if a goat of 80 kg is lifted by 5 metres above the ground by a crane, its gain in GPE would be:

80 x 9.81 (gravity) x 5 = 3924 Joules

thanks :D....and erm... if you could tell me what happens at that BMAT test...cause like i was thinking..that i will have to do it if i go into medicine (aiming for imperial college insha'allah :))..i know its a long way still..but then again 3 years isnt too long...so if you could jus t tell me what its about AFTER you've done the test, it'd be great :D

Salaam All,

Well I'm doing work experience right this minute...(I'm in a computer company! Wohooo) So..I don't have my books with me, however I would like some help on french!

Does anyone know where Duhaa is? Duhaa!!!!!

Wassalam :peace:

Right here.

LOL ;D

What exactly do you need help in?

I could start with tenses if you like because half the exams on getting the tenses right.
And not to forget the etre and avoir etc.

So whatever it is........I'm right here. :)

Salaam,

My Angel! :) Lol...

Well it's like everything!! I get so confused...

Like we have to do the present, perfect, near future and future tense! How does she expect me to cram that into my little head!!!

Is there an easy way to remember the rules? :cry:

Wassalam :peace:

There is no real easy way to remeber I'm afraid BUT the way I learnt was to do a lot of practice sentences.

And don't do it all together. So first learn the present tense and then when you know that, then move onto the past tenses and so on.

If you try and cram it (I'm sure you've not got a little head ;)) then you'll get them mixed up.

I'll try and email you the notes that I used, but it'll have to be in a few days time. But I know it's hard unless you have a gift, I didnt so I had to work for the grade. :)

Salaam,

JazakAllah sis!

And yeah...I can't do it right now anyways...I'm supposed to be working! :p

Wassalam :peace:

:sl:

I read something about formulas and they were all Physics ones too.

Who needs help? I'm here :D

Okay...a teeeny weeny bit late..I'm sorry! :playing:

salam sister,
jazakullah for you info
i am currentlt revising for my gcse mock exams that i will take in december
i don't know a proper way to revise
is it ok if anyone could tell me how i could revise which would be very useful for me
