if someone told a lie but dint mean to, and that lie they told is always on they mind, and if they want to put that right how should they?
 
salamunalikum...

i think the person should just tell the truth to the person they lied to..? meaning whatever the lie was admitt it was the lie..and ask for forgiveness from both the person that was lied to and Allah(swt)

and Allah knows best

maybe tell them the truth and explain to them the reason as to why you tlied...if they are true friend then they will understand
oh and ask for forgiveness from Allah SWT and the person

tell the truth
take whatever consequences are thrown at you



its not easy, infact ist hard, may Allah help you!
