#Horoscopes

Astrology, horoscopes, superstition and fortune-telling are all actions of jaahiliyyah (ignorance) which Islām came to show as false and to explain that they are shirk, because they involve depending on something other than Allāh ‎‎‬‎ﷻ‬ and believing that benefit and harm come from something other than Him, and believing the words of fortune-tellers and soothsayers who falsely claim to have knowledge of the unseen in order to cheat people of their money and change their beliefs.
___________

The evidence for that is: The Prophet Muhammad ‎ﷺ‎‬ said, “Whoever learns anything of astrology has learned a branch of witchcraft (al-sihr)…” [Abu Dawood]

He ‎ﷺ‎‬ also said, “He is not one of us who practises augury or has it done for him, who tells fortunes or has his fortune told, or who practises witchcraft or has that done for him.” [at-Tabaraani]
__________

Whoever claims to know some matter of the unseen either is a fortune-teller or is acting like a fortune-teller in some sense, because Allāh ﷻ is the only One Who has knowledge of the unseen.

Allāh ﷻ says, “Say: ‘None in the heavens and the earth knows the Ghayb (Unseen) except Allāh…” [al-Naml | 27:65]

My advice to everyone who has anything to do with these matters is to repent to Allāh ﷻ and ask for His forgiveness, and to depend only on Allāh ﷻ and to put their trust in Him in all their affairs, whilst following the practical means that are prescribed or permitted in shari’ah.

They should give up these matters of jaahiliyyah, keep away from them and avoid asking the people who practise them or believe what they say, out of obedience to Allāh ﷻ and His Messenger ‎ﷺ‎‬, and in order to protect his commitment to Islam and his ‘aqeedah (religious belief).

:jz: for the reminder, I also recall a hadith on fortune telling means 30 or 40 days of prayer won't be accepted. Does anyone know source?

Assalamualaikum

"Whoever comes to fortune teller and ask him (the fortune teller) about something, then his salah will not be accepted for forty nights"
(HR Muslim)

Assalamualaikum.

Just want to share practical idea to counter belief on horoscope. If you find someone near you has interest to astrology (horoscope), teach him/her about astronomy and teach him/her that stars, moon, sun, are the signs of greatness of Allah. In Shaa Allah, it can prevent him/her believe on astrology.

Superstitious Astrologers believe that Our Lives are affected by the Stars/Planets etc

Narrated Abu Masud: The Prophet :saws: said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death of someone from the people but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. When you see them stand up and pray." (Saheeh al Bukhari 3204)

Allah tabarak wata'ala also states Explicitely that Fortune Telling is the Handiwork of the Shaytaan,

Surah Al-Maeda : Ayah 90
-------------------------------
"O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, Al-Ansab, and Al-Azlam (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitan's (Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful. "
