lol something like this was posted here before, there is actually an explanation

it was something along that lines of only certain answers are possible (due to the design of the algebra) and every one of the possible answers has the same symbol next to it, so no matter what number you pick its always the same symbol that u get, and thats the symbol that picks

and every time you play it, they change around what symbol appears next to the numbers that can be answers
 
Yeah at first it seemed wierd but then i checked the number symbols. and yeah they change.
