Somtimes the use of a long vowl could change the whole word to another one.

Interesting....Would the word "Dhan-Dhaan" Or "Dhanaan" as in sour.. be used also with that "D" this is pronounced like the arabic "Ta" (the one with the stick) sax!!

The dh is only included in formal texts, but you do not pronounce it as dha but as r. However, you will rarely find the dh consonant used at the end, they mostly use the 'r'.

few yrs back,i couldnt write a sentence in somali,alhamdulilah now i got da hang of it.

but one thing i still dont get is,some words have da same formula in writing but change in sound
like beer(a farm) and beer(liver)

and i always used to read as badh,not prouncing it as r but as dh.

That is what you call a homonym (words having the same sound and spelling).

It is a grammatical rule in the Somali language that if words are identical (homonyms), gender should be used.

So beer(ta) is the feminine noun for farm/garden whilst beer(ka) is the masculine noun for liver.

A few examples where homonyms are distinguished by using gender:

hal(sha) - female camel (feminine)
hal(ka) - one (masculine)

samaan(ka) - time/era/epoch (masculine)
samaan(ta) - goodness (feminine)

gees(ka) - horn (masculine)
gees(ta) - direction/corner/side (feminine)

another tip i used was,converse with people esp wen taking on msn.at 1st everyone used to laugh at ma somali writing coz i had trouble writing with da double letters.

i would write salan instead of salaan but with some practise alhamdulilah i`m getting there.

I think it's the way you said it samiya.. hasha that's how i heard it..
