How many Bengalis are here ?

Haan ji. Chachi is the Hindi and Urdu version for Sasi in Bangla

Same with Chacha and Sasa

But Masi means something else in Bangla and that is what Indians call their Mother's Sister, always cracks me up when I hear it

Masi means fly (insect) in Bangla. Lol...

never heard of Sasi . We also use chacha - chachi or kaka -Kaki. Most use the word chachi rather than kaki.

Masi means fly (insect) in Bangla. Lol...

spelling and pronounciation are different of these 2 words.

Masee / Masi মাসি - aunt / khala

Machi মাছি is fly/ insect.

ok , the conclusion is we need more Bengali persons in the forum . After that , In'sha Allah we will try hard to have our bangla section.

Hmmm... Do you speak Dhaka Bangla? The Sylhetis say what I've written "Sasi" "masi/masee" (insect; fly)

Well, the Sylhetis I know say those words, it's mainly Dhakai residents who say "chachi' "machi"

i think there are lots of bengalis here but they are silent...

Lol. The quest continues...

I remember there being a Bangla thread back in '05/'06, but a moderator closed it.

If members are teaching Bangla to others as in words, sentences and such then I think it won't be a problem to open a section but as my dear Muslim Woman has written, there needs to be enough members of that background to make a section.

:ia: if members are wanting this then it may happen

How does one say I'm fine and what's up in Bengal?

Lol guess I'll get my lessons from hea :p

How does one say I'm fine and what's up in Bengal?

I'm fine: Ami bala asi

What's up? : Kitha uff re? (The literal sense)
;D

These are the villages of Sylhet Bangla speech that I'm writing, other dear Brothers & Sisters may give you the Dhakai version or the proper Sylheti version
