How Much Sleep?

I read earlier in an islamic book, think it was an hadith one but ain`t sure,that the body should only get 5 hours sleep.Any more than that and it`s bad for your health.So i`m just wandering how much sleep do people get on here?
 
I normally sleep around 9 hours. (I'm 17) I haven't heard of that hadith before.

Do you have a source for it? It's always best to be absolutely positive about Ahadith.
If I'm lucky, I manage 7 hours. Otherwise, anything from 4-6.
 
Ok thanks all.Like i said i can`t remember wether it was an hadith i know it was by muhammed(PBUH)/in a book to do with muhammed(PBUH) though.
 
Never heard of it either but I personally only get 4~5 hours except on the weekend unless on call there too, and can tell you that I am two steps from death every day I feel so bloody tired and unwell.. not sure the body is meant for this type of lifestyle.....

I dont think there is any hadith on that but I've heard 8 hours sleep is good for you.

I think general health advice (non-Islamic) is to aim for 7-9 hours sleep per night.
People have individual sleep patterns and varying need for sleep, but I think there is some evidence which suggests that ongoing lack of sleep can have a negative effect on ones health.

Perhaps you can find the hadith which mentioned 5 hours sleep and post it here? People might be interested.
 
what the hell, how do people only sleep for 5 hours? its impossible for me to wake up unless I've a good 8 hours, on weekends atleast 10 hours
 
^^ some of us don't have much of a choice, you see. Just last year, I used to sleep for at least 12 hours on Sunday, with a Fajr break in between.
Now, miraculously, I can survive on 2 or 3. Something I would have thought impossible.

After I've finished marking, lesson planning and preparing for the next day's class, I want some 'me-time' before my brain goes bust. Unfortunately, it's pretty late by then.

True. It's not very healthy for my wallet either lol.
But desperate times call for desperate measures.

I usually get between 6-7 hours. i feel grateful when I get this amount of sleep. but on some days I get only 4 hours. The joys of being a working mother/housewife I guess.
 
i cant sleep more then 6- 7 hours. i have heard that research says 8 hours is limit. only 5 hours? i would need couple of espressos to manage stay up.. :)
