It seems Islam is more than simply making the profession of faith, as important as that is. Am I wrong?
You are correct; simply saying the shadaha or calling yourself a muslim is not enough. You have to put actions behind your words - otherwise it is mere lip service.

Sorry for too many questions in one post.
No problem in asking questions BUT keep in mind they may have already been answered on another thread (or even in this one), so please do use the search function. Thanks.

the word Muslim means "One who Submits" not to god,it just means one who submits,it was only later in time that "to god" part was added.Im not Questioning you in anyway,Just stating a Fact.

Indeed in language muslim is an adjective which means "One who submits", however where you came up with the idea that the word's definition was changed later in time is beyond me.
The noun muslim though refers to the followers of Islam, and in this context it is submission to GOD, simple.

Exactly like the word "muhsin" : it means one who perfects his work, from ihsan, however in the context of Islam it means one who perfects his submission to ALLAH(swt)

no, the word muslim means One who Submits,no god after that,Just one who Submits, and if i went by that meaning,It really mean's just do what i say and dont question me,

Here are the steps to become a Muslim. You do not need any witness or go to the mosque. You can easily declare by yourself that Allah is the only God and Muhammad is the final Messenger and you can do it anywhere, anytime.

First of all ask these questions to yourself:

Do you believe Allah is the Only Creator of the whole universe and He Alone should be worshipped and do you accept Muhammad pbuh as the final messenger and slave of Allah?
If YES proceed to the next question

If you were to convert, can you perform the 5 obligatory prayers daily?
If YES proceed to the next question

If you were to convert, can you pay zakat/charity?
If YES

Then do not hesitate to surrender yourself to Allah The Almightty before it is too late.

All you need to do is to pronounce the Shahadah correctly in Arabic then say it again in any language that you can understand so that you know what you said in Arabic.

Below are the steps of pronouncing the Shahadah

Make intention in your heart that you want to surrender yourself to Allah The Almighty
Pronounce the Shahadah
Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illallaah,

wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh.
I testify there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I testify Muhammad is His slave and messenger

3. Take Ghusl/shower

HOW TO PERFORM GHUSL

“The proper method of ghusl (ritual bath) involves the following steps:1. Make the niyyah (intention) to perform ghusl for purification.
2. Wash your private parts thoroughly with water.

3. Perform wudu’ (ablution) except for washing of your feet, which you can do later while bathing the body.

4. Wash the entire body, starting with your head and the right side, followed by the left.

5. It is preferred that the whole body be washed three times. The minimum is once.

Having completed the above, you are considered eligible to perform the salah (prayer).”

HOW TO PERFORM WUDOO

Declare the intention that the act is for the purpose of worship & purity.
n Start by saying: Bismillah (“In the Name of Allah”)

Step 4

Cleanse the nostrils by sniffing water into them by the right hands & then remove the water with left hand, three times.
Step 5

Wash the whole face three times with both hands, from the top of the forehead to the bottom of the chin and from ear to ear.
Step 6

Step 7

Step 8

Wipe the inner sides of the ears with the forefingers and their outer sides with the thumb. This should be done with wet fingers.
Step 9

Wash the two feet up to the ankles, three times, beginning with the right foot and then the left foot.

You make coversion to Islam sound so easy. Which it is.;D

My advise would be if someone says their shahada online to go to their nearest masjid. In my opinion one needs contact with muslims in "real" life also. Don't worry they are not scary, the best thing I ever did was visit my nearest masjid :D
