If you have Windows, then you should have a Windows movie maker file, either 2. or 2.6. already on your computer. The following is a 10 minute tutorial on how to use this programme. You could also just do a random search of youtube for other tutorials.
ask scimitar or Jedi_mindset, they're both movie makers. Anyways, I would recommend you to use Sony Vegas 8 or go for 11 professional edition. They offer you cropping tool, effects, transitions, title n much more(search the plugins of video fx if you want more of it). To spice things up, use adobe after effects to make cool intros or outstanding video fx. Trust me, it will take sometime to get use to at first buts gonna be worth it! I don't use windows movie maker cuz it took forever for me to process my video to .avi. Oh n dun forget to use virtualdub as well, might be useful too
