Hurricane's tail to lash Britain

Storm warning: The tail of Hurricane Gordon is expected to hit the UK this week

Parts of the UK are bracing themselves for storms as the tail-end of a hurricane makes its way towards Britain.

Northern Ireland and Scotland will be worst hit when Hurricane Gordon arrives on British shores later this week.

The storm is set to bring heavy rain and strong gusty winds which could reach up to 75mph, forecasters said.

Paul Motts, of the PA WeatherCentre, warned there was a risk of localised flooding with around 2in (50mm) of rain likely to fall during Wednesday and Thursday.

"There will be severe gales across Ireland on Thursday night. Winds will average 50-55mph but will be gusting up to 75mph.

"Some places will see up to 2in of rain," Mr Motts said.

Heavy showers threaten to interrupt play when the Ryder Cup gets under way in Straffan, County Kildare, on Friday.

But the worst of the storms should have passed, making way for a weekend of sunshine and showers, he said.

Elsewhere in western England and Wales conditions will not be so severe, with gusty winds tomorrow reaching up to 50mph.

"Across exposed parts of south-west England and west Wales the winds will not be as bad as across Ireland and the rain will be on and off," Mr Motts said.

Meanwhile, as storms lash the West, eastern parts of England will enjoy warm, dry conditions with temperatures in London and the South East reaching an unseasonably warm 26°C (79°F) on Thursday.

Take care all. May Allah protect us. Ameen.

Heard it all before. The only time to worry about a hurricane hitting the UK is when a BBC weather forecaster says it won't! :D

Technically that wasn't a hurricane, although it might as well have been one!
:w:

i didnt know that hurricanes occured up there
:sl:
They don't, although rarely the remains of them or their tails hit the country. There was quite recently a huge hurricane-force storm, but it wasn't a real hurricane.

hmmm. last week there was a tornado in leeds and we got a part of that!

Being in North Carolina, we usually get hit regularly with hurricanes during the season. LUCKILY we haven't had a major one this season, just the remenints of one.. *knock on wood*

Well thats what we thought and then last year we were hit with a small torando smack in the middle of Birmingham and a couple of years ago we had a small earthquake (which i stupidly slept through) ... anyone know if this is gonna hit Birmingham, West Midlands im pretty sure we are in the South (gulp:offended: )

is this source accurate?....evidence? well am down london...likely to hit there or outer london (countryside)?.......

its all just predictions, Allah knows what will happen, and if it does who knows Allah might just save us from all harm :D

Relax. The water temperature is too cold so it won't live very much longer.
