Alright so im preston im 12 years old and want to learn about islam and what it stands for

Although you are young (only 12) you are asking to learn about a religion which is not known to you.

I kind of understand your position.

When I studied Judaism, I was in the same boat - I didn't know where to start... and in those days, we didn't have forums.

I hope you find your stay here beneficial, and you learn all that you wished to learn and more - and most of all, you get a good understanding of REAL Islam from REAL Muslims - and not the rubbish the media feed you on TV news broadcasts

Welcome to the forum James, and thank you for asking.

If you came across a table and chair in the middle of a forest, you would know that someone had come along, sawn the right sized pieces of wood off the trees, shaped them, joined them together etc to make what was in front of you. I'm sure you wouldn't conclude that the right sized pieces had sawn themselves off the trees and joined themselves together to make a table and chairs.

So we believe, that this intricate universe, has an all-Powerful Creator, and we don't believe that the universe came about by coincidence or by chance or by some random happening.

That Creator, periodically sent human messengers to mankind, to guide mankind as to how they should live, to be role-models, give good news, to warn mankind against wrong doing, and to tell them that they'll be brought to account on judgement day, and to show people how they should worship God the Creator, who is the Only One deserving of all worship, and has no associates in His Exclusive Divinity.

Islam is a culmination of that same ultimate universal truth which God revealed to all prophets and messengers, including Noah, Abraham, Jesus and Moses, peace be on them. Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be on him, is the last messenger of God, and a book called the Qur'an was revealed to him. That book is 100% God's word, so it supersedes, continues, confirms, and is a culimination of, the truth that was in the earlier scriptures. Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be on him, is the messenger who must now be followed, the Qur'an being the book that must be followed.

You'll notice that Islam is not named after a specific person (like Christianity, Buddhism), nor after a certain race or place (like Judaism, Hinduism), but is named by God Himself, the meaning loosely translating as 'submission to God', which is what every Prophet and their righteous followers did, from amongst all times, places and peoples. That in itself is one fraction of the evidence that it was the way of all the Prophets from the beginning.

We believe that mankind will be brought to account on Judgement day.

Islam is distinguishable from other religions, as:

1) It is a complete way of life, which is practical and balanced
2) It has a pure and clear concept of the Oneness of God
3) It has a close relationship with the Creator
4) It emphasizes evidence and faith
5) There is accountability and total justice
6) It has a universal and timeless message
7) All the messengers of God are believed in, none are blasphemed or rejected, nor at the other end of the extreme are they made into gods
8) It's scripture is 100% the word of God
9) There is forgiveness as opposed to someone having to atone for your sins
10) Belief and good deeds go hand in hand
11) It is a complete code of conduct for every aspect of life, from the most intimate, to the most public. It not only exhorts one to be good, but provides complete guidance to practically live that, taking a preventative approach to problems in society from the outset. It guides us towards practical ways of achieving righteousness and eliminating evil from our individual and collective lives, taking into account human nature and the complexities of human society.

I could go on, but will stop here for now.

As a brief foundation, we believe in, submit to, and worship, the One True God and Lord, the Creator, who has no sons, no associates in His Exclusive Divinity whatsoever, and obey the guidance of the prophets and messengers He sent, the last of whom is Muhammad (peace and blessings be on him). Since the scripture given to him is the only one preserved, and the Prophet's example is preserved, we follow him and the book given to him by God.

(smile) Welcome to this Forum. And congratulations for being open with your age. (twinkle) Perhaps others may take your example, and not feel too shy about revealing their true ages...

Insaanah has given a good introduction to our beliefs. (smile) But of course, there are many things you might like to ask about. So please, don't be shy. This life is a voyage of discovery. So no one has all the answers. But we read the Qur'an, and we read the sayings of the Prophet Mohammed (God's Peace and Blessings on him), and we ask people who study these things more, to try to understand God's Will.

(smile) But at the end of the day, we are all responsible, ourselves, for what we chose to do. We also believe we have an inner compass (fitrah) that can feel right from wrong. So we think and we study and we ask, and we pray and try to feel what is right. (smile) And we try our best. Because that is what God is asking us to do: try. He Knows we are weak and not perfect, and He doesn't Expect us to get everything right. (smile) He just Expects us to try.

And one Day, we will die, and then we will be brought back to life to be evaluated by God. He'll look at who we are and what we have done, and He'll be very Kind and Fair (actually, He's promised that our bad deeds count as just one bad deed, but our good deeds can be multiplied… (twinkle) Sounds like a good deal to me!). And, by His Mercy and Compassion, we hope that we may enter Paradise. (smile) Paradise is an amazing state of being. We can't really understand it. God Gives us some metaphorical descriptions, but how can you understand something you've never experienced before? But it's what we hope for in the Next life.

The word Muslim means a person who tries to surrender to God's Will, and who feels at peace when he or she succeeds. (smile) So this is why Adam, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, etc… (God Bless them all) are all Muslims. Because God Loves us, He Sent Prophets and Messengers to all people, around the world, throughout time. Their messages got a bit mixed up over time, but the basic ideas can be found all around the world. After the Prophet Mohammed (God Bless him) recited to us the Qur'an (which is from God Himself), we didn't need any more Prophets, because the Qur'an has been preserved for anyone to consult if they wish.

(smile) So anyway, if you want to know about the way Muslims understand life, don't be shy to ask. We're not experts, we're mostly just regular people who are trying our best to be Muslims. So don't take what we say as God's Word (that's the Qur'an). But as much as possible, we'll do our best to give you our ideas and opinions.

(smile) And then it's up to you what you decide to do, and your responsibility before God. (smile) Well, once you become an adult. Before you become fully adult, your good deeds are counted, but not your bad deeds. (laugh) Which is not an excuse to go out and do lots of bad stuff while you can! Because stopping yourself from doing bad stuff counts as good deeds, too. And doing good when you are young is like putting money in the bank… your savings might save you one day...
