'I call to witness the setting of the Stars' 56:75

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ {75}​

[Yusufali 56:75] Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars,-
[Pickthal 56:75] Nay, I swear by the places of the stars -

وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ {76}
[Yusufali 56:76] And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew,-
[Pickthal 56:76] And lo! that verily is a tremendous oath, if ye but knew -

I have a question about the significance of the setting places of the stars that Allah would take an oath by them...

Could a scholarly person please shed some light on that verse as appears in this sura.. I have been very drawn to the sura for days, as if hearing it for the first time...

I do not know the Tafsir about this, but speaking as an amateur astronomer I find the steadfastness of the orbits of the stars to be a visible symbol of the eternal strength and unchangeability of Allaah(swt) Because the movements of the stars is so well established, we can depend on their apparent location for establishing time and location.

In my opinion the ayyats are a description of the reliability of Allaah's (swt) word.

I have heard the same akhi sob7an Allah.. thank you for sharing.. Also I would like to add that whenever Allah makes an oath he does it 'bisifat nafi' .. i.e an adjective asserted in the negative...does that make sense?

If I recall correctly you speak Arabic. In My rusty Moroccan Arabic I recall the negative to also be used to imply the fact that something is valid. For example:

N'cal ha lee (I said it to you?) if you deny that I said it I may come back with the negative: ma N'cal shee ha lee. the meaning would be literly (I did not say it to you) but the implication is a challange that reiterates that in fact I did say it to you.

So based on my understanding the Arabic Usage of negatives I would view that the use of 'bisifat nafi' as a positive statement that it is true and the facts show it to be true, so the statement is not needed.

I admire all those attempts, I don't think I have read anything that has captured transliteration fully... sob7an Allah... Arabic is a very rich language..

Another amazing quality of the Qur'an. Arabic is very dependent on the tonal quality of a sentence as it is upon the literal meaning. the Qur'an has preserved the true tonal value in the manner in which the words are written. Reread the surah again and think of the Tajweed of the words along with the meaning and it is a very positive statement.

I have become haunted, with the Quran lately.. I don't know if these are proper words to describe how I become obsessed with suras listening to the same one almost 50 times a day...

I can't say that I ever believed Music was Haram or that I gave it up completely, I used to play the piano in all throught my young school years... for a few months now I can't stand listening to Music.. it has become irritating to my ears if that is even possible? like loud background noise and sharp light when you have a migraine...

The Quran, I have been hearing it all my life but never really listening.. I attempted to study it.

"And I swear by the locations of the Stars. And certainly this adjuration you will find very great if you could know about the locations of the stars" {Refer 56:75-76}

The location of different stars has been indicated as something of great importance. This can be appreciated by those who explore and know the Milky Way Galaxy and farther galaxies and stars. Locations help astronomers determine the age of stars. Most O (blue) and B (blue-white) main-sequence stars are not randomly distributed throughout the sky. Instead, these stars tend to be grouped into associations lying along the spiral arms of the Milky Way. Some of these groups, such as one in the constellation Perseus, appear to be expanding. By extrapolating its expanding motion backward, astronomers can determine that the age of the expansion (and therefore the stars) is less than two million years.

It is a common perception that one swears by something which is of great importance and sanctity. Apart from the locations of the stars there is another thing/object/place which has been used for swearing:

"And I swear by "Receded, Retrograded Ones which are "The swiftly moving particular hiding places/abodes/caves" {Refer 81:15-16}
Scientists may look into this swearing wherein the metaphors used are describing something/objects which have the nature/feature of receded, retrograded ones and for others are hiding places/caves. Aren't these two verses referring to the concept of singularities-presence of many black holes?

"And the Sky and the "Wayfarer", and what thing will make you perceive that "Wayfarer"? {or, of the} The Brightly Shining Star" {Refer 86:01-03}

Im facing similar situation. May be because of Mishary Rashid. His recitation has possessed me completely. I was the one who used to watch 4-5 movies on weekends and now I just listen to Mishary Rashid all the time, he simply changed my life

I guess si could translate to "to the contrary"...
I know a couple of languages that have a similar word, one of them is german - doch!

Black hole seems to best tafsir.

NASA spotted Stars falling into Black Hole.

Black Hole has gravational pull that pulls even the photons(light) towards itself that's why they appear black.

Being such a mighty creation, it's being sworn at.
