It is not short for *isn't it*, the closest short hand to isn't it is *aint it* not innit,

Let's give it it's own word-class, called 'The Innit' And leave it at that,

No no, you've got it all wrong, in Mandolivicér's book of slang language, he has stated that init is short and derived from in lingual terms from isn't it, and ain't it is also derived from isn't it.
