I spent 7 months building a Quran habit app. I would love your honest feedback 🤲

Assalamu aleikum, brothers and sisters,

For the past 7 months I have been building an app called Quran Habit, alhamdulillah. The idea is simple: help us come back to the Quran every day, even if only for a few minutes, until it becomes a habit that stays.

Many of us open the Quran with good intentions and then days pass. I wanted something gentle that keeps you coming back, without guilt and without distractions.

The app counts your hasanat based on this hadith:

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will receive one good deed, and one good deed is multiplied by ten. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is one letter, but rather Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Mim is a letter." (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2910)

Arabic: مَنْ قَرَأَ حَرْفًا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَلَهُ بِهِ حَسَنَةٌ، وَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا، لَا أَقُولُ الم حَرْفٌ، وَلَكِنْ أَلِفٌ حَرْفٌ وَلَامٌ حَرْفٌ وَمِيمٌ حَرْفٌ


The app tracks your daily streak and shows your reading on a heatmap. You can invite friends, and once two or more of them join, you see their combined hasanat (never anyone's individual numbers). In sha Allah, that can be sadaqah jariyah for you.



I designed Weekly leagues, like in Duolingo to compete for the Good deeds as said in Ayah:

• Al-Baqarah 2:148: "So race to all that is good." (فَاسْتَبِقُوا الْخَيْرَاتِ). The same words also appear in Al-Ma'idah 5:48.
• Al-Mutaffifin 83:26: "So for this let the competitors compete." (وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ)

You can see your friends, your country and total rankings for the whole world. Also streak ranking exist.
If you want to avoid riya, you can hide yourself from leaderboards or change your display name.

You earn gems as you read, and there are daily challenges like Night Habit (Al-Mulk, Ayat al-Kursi), Morning Light, and the Al-Kahf Jumu'ah Habit.
You earn badges as you read for motivational purposes.

I translated the app into 13 interface languages (Arabic, Urdu, Indonesian, Malay, Turkish etc.) (+Spanish upcoming soon), 43 Quran text translations, 40 qaris and tafsir included. The Mushaf is also included in several layouts. You can read the original Quran pages.

You can tap a word to hear how it is pronounced, and share any ayah as a wallpaper or text.

Beside Quran app also includes Tasbeehs with Sunnah dhikrs inside it. And also 99 Allah's Names and Quranic Dua's which categorized per topic and Prophets (a.s). And also Ayah of Day, Dua of Day, Daily Allah's Name you receive, and many reminder notifications, very-well designed based on your habit and activeness on the app.

The app is free for everyone and has no ads. There is an optional Supporter plan for those who want to help me to cover the costs, and if someone cannot afford it, they simply use the app for free. To maintain the app I spend for server costs and builded with my fundings.

Right now I only wish that as many Muslims as possible join and use it, I either gain your support or hasanahs for Akhirah inshaAllah with this sadaqai jariyah. Your support money will be spend for future projects.

JazakAllahu khayran for sharing what you have built. It is clear that you have invested considerable time and effort into the app, and encouraging people to read the Qur’an is a worthwhile aim.

My concern is with the way the app presents worship through streaks, gems, badges, leagues, rankings, challenges, and calculated “hasanat.”
The reward for reciting the Qur’an is from Allah, and it is not something an app can calculate, quantify, compare, or display. Even if the intention is motivation, presenting worship as points and competition may encourage people to focus on scores and achievements rather than sincerity, reflection, and seeking Allah’s pleasure. It could also create concerns about riya, even where users can hide their names.

The hadith mentions the immense reward for reciting each letter, but it does not provide a formula for an app to calculate an individual’s hasanat. It may therefore be better to describe the feature as tracking reading activity or letters recited, rather than claiming to count a user’s good deeds. Similarly, terms such as “combined hasanat,” “hasanat rankings,” and “competing for good deeds” could be reconsidered, since the actual reward belongs to Allah alone and depends on matters an app cannot measure, including intention and sincerity.

There is nothing wrong with reminders, reading goals, progress tracking, or tools that help people build a regular habit. However, I would strongly encourage you to remove or reword the features that turn acts of worship into scores, leaderboards, rewards, and commercial-style gamification. A Qur’an app should be particularly careful not to make worship resemble a game or social competition.

May Allah reward you for your efforts, guide you to what is best, and make the app a genuine means of benefit for the Ummah.
