That is the Hanafi Madhaib if I understand correctly. Im 80% sure. Maybe a brother or sister can clarify that up...

I follow the Hanafi Madhab and as far as I'm concerned that is not allowed.

That was not something the sheikh always did. It looks some special occasion. Other videos of him show him folding his hands, so... Allahu A'lam about the reason behind it.
