Don't give me some other foolish ideas :raging:

My Windows 7 license has expired :( I installed a pirated copy of Windows XP SP3. I thought it was OS which is not working so I downloaded Ubuntu. When download completed I found that I left my USB stick at my office. So I used my mobile card as USB.

I was unable to install Ubuntu using my D and E drive. (can you kindly PM me how to fix those drive options... )
LOL!!

How to change DNS server? I use cable net... the guy is using Tenda as net distributor... assigns us IPs from his own end and there is no need of doing any changes on our machines. Its just plug and play.

So I assume that you are now on your pirated copy of win xp sp3. :p Are you able to see your E and D drives? Your internet, Does it use DHCP? I am not sure about Tenda technology.

Maybe the new IB server put in some sort of bandwith quota for visitors and hence difficulties in accessing the forum?
Is that even possible?

if it happens again could you immediately go to
and do a test from there?

www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com < book mark this page!

I tried it this morning, when the forum wasn't working for me again, and it said it was just me. I clicked on the link on that page, http://islamicboard.com, and that took me to a text only version of the forum (white background with Times New Roman text), and I logged in from there and then managed to get onto the forum properly.

Nah there is no bandwidth quota set or anything
try doing an ipconfig /flushdns

maybe your ISP dns is being a bit funny!

I face a lot of problem while accessing the forum...:/ many times just have to go for google's cached page of this site... why is it happening? it wasn't the case 2 or 3 years back. ^o)

I think that's the prob.

Got a new Internet connection(diff ISP), and LI wasn't working from work computer too. Changed to google's DNS(8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4) and it worked!

The LIKE system is working for me now, now that I don't use internet through a proxy.

See, didn't I tell you? :p You are not on Beam anymore?

Try now i've just added Google DNS Servers to the Server box

let me know if it works now

it's better now.
But sometimes I do get that white page with Database error warning

How do you do that? DNS setting of the browser or system?
If its browser then tell me how to do it in FF. I use cable net and there is no setting required from my end to access the internet. The cable guy just takes my machines make(physical) address and update it on his end.

^ I am using the same settings on Ubuntu. You can use DHCP (addresses only) or in manual settings you can edit the DNS.

I am a linux lobbyist. :p

:sl:

I was going to write, that if this is something that might work for the rest of us, can somebody please explain in plain language for non-technical people what we have to do, or give some info or a link, but anyhow, I googled it, and eventually worked out what to do and how to do it, and so far it seems like it's working.

For anyone that would like to try it, these are the instructions for Windows XP:

http://www.plus.net/support/software/dns/changing_dns_xp.shtml

These are the instructions for Windows Vista:

http://www.plus.net/support/software/dns/changing_dns_vista.shtml

And these are the instructions for Windows 7, under the big green writing where it says, "Here's how":

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/15037-dns-addressing-how-change-windows-7-a.html

For preferred DNS server, put 8.8.8.8 rather than what's suggested in the links.
For alternate DNS server, put 4.4.4.4 rather than what's suggested in the links.

Hope that helps a bit inshaa'Allah.
