you said that tidak means no. thats true, but there is another word that means no, 'bukan'. be careful becuase you cant use these interchangably.
tidak is used to negate verbs and adjectives, bukan is used to negate nouns.
for example, you said:
saya tidak suka kamu-i'm not like you
first, ill mention that it means 'i dont like you' hehe, so you got it a bit wrong.

and you notice that here tidak is used and not bukan, because 'suka' (to like) is a verb.
saya bukan teman kamu= im not your freind.
here bukan is used and not tidak becuase teman (friend) is a noun.
