Is it Appropriate.... ?

Assalam o Allikum,
im still very new to the forum and also to Islam but i find that my knowledge is increasing day by day. Tho i am really concerned about a couple of issues here on this forum. The use of Vulgar sexually orientated words / slang being displayed on the same page as verses and such from the Quran and Hadith i believe is quite offensive. Am i wrong in thinking that this is not aceptable?
I've noticed some people even using such words in their signature and i would emphasis the importance of using such dis-respectfull words together with words from the Quran and Hadith. on e example - I find it quite distracting, humiliating and dont really know how i should be feeling when i am reading on this forum verses guidance etc from the Quran and Hadith and then i see a word promoting prostition on the same page.

i also want to make clear that i have nothing personal agaisint the individuals who are doing this but would encourage them to seek further guidance in regards to this matter, InshaAllah may Allah forgive us all.

If i am however wrong... and it is acceptable to be using 'bad words' on the same page with verses of the Quran etc... could someone please guide me as to why it is acceptable, im all for a friendly relaxed atmosphere here in the forum but bad language / slang surely is a no no...

Quite rightly so, it's not appropriate to use such *words* on a forum of this nature, it kind of defeats the whole purpose of coming on to an ISLAMIC forum...

Is it possible for you to elaborate on the "bad word" bit. I'm slightly confused as to what you are referring to. Is it simple slang such as 'yo peepz! hw ya doin' or bad words meaning swear words?

i dont really want to repeat the words as i would see it as wrong considering my signarute has a verse form the Quran
but to elaborate to the meaning of the words i have seen is as thus :-
example of word 'A'

someone who procures customers for prostitutes

arrange for sexual partners for others

And also from the 'slang' urban dictionary is defined as :-

one who brokers the sexual favors of women for profits

A man who makes a profession out of reducing women to commodities and convincing them to sell their bodies to clients. An oppressor of women.

and example of word (s) there are several of this nature

obscene terms for feces

obscene words for unacceptable behavior

The only thing I understand is the obscene word for faeces. And that word is censored as far as I know.

Okay I understand what you're saying and nope, it definitely is not appropriate. However, to be honest, the person who has that thing in their sig is using the word within another context. Not that I'm justifying it or anything, just that the person quite frankly has no idea that this is a "bad" word, it's a slang term that means a variety of things depending on how you use it (sounds silly, I know). But yeah, once again, not justifying it... just explaining.

Anyways, Alhamdulillaah you are new to Islaam and you've raised a good issue and I agree with you. All I can say is ALOT of stuff goes on forums and not all the times can the Moderators deal with it... so if we see something bad on this forum, we should try out best to advise or if not avoid that bad thing and just take the good from this forum. Sorry if I couldn't give a good reply and Aameen to your Dua:

Oh that word????...As said above i think the person/people using the term is/are not using the term in the manner in which you think...The world of slang is a funny ol' place...For years my younger self and all the other kids used the term 'bad' to something we found good or liked, and i wont say what we called things we disliked l o l.

So in a nut shell i think it's just used in a different context to what it should be...People from different places geographically speak in different ways, more over when it comes to slang.

is it acceptable to use such SLANG in a religious forum where holy words are written ?
One persons slang can be anothers abuse and so on..

EDIT : i was refering to what i had seen by indivivualS - plural.. not just one person.
i had read on the FAQ that 'text speak' or 'chat speak' is not accepted, not that i have a problem with it... but this falls under the same issue... some people cant understand it and its like a foreign language to them, the same can be said for slang.

I'm no scholar, I'm also fairly new to Islam, So this is just my 2 cents... :sunny:

First of all I'd like to congratulate you for bringing this issue to light, It shows that you love your faith and hold Islam in the highest regard, which is truly a beautiful thing to see.

I think this issue is the same as in real life, The majority of us arent perfect and sometimes we may not realise that we are offending others with our actions, for example... I smoke cigarettes, which I am not proud of and Insha'Allah I will be able to stop. There have been times I have lit a cigarette in the company of some of my Muslim friends and I've been asked to put it out as it's not appropriate behaviour for a Muslim and I havent been setting a good example of Islam for onlookers... Nowadays I wouldnt dream of lighting a cigarette whilst wearing my Kufi in public, Its just not right (in my mind)... But at one point the thought wouldnt have entered my mind... which brings me to what JZCASEJZ said... "we should try our best to advise. If my friends hadnt advised me, I would know no better, and I am very grateful that my actions were challenged. I think we can take these values and apply them to most things, For example, I still have many non-Muslim friends who use explicit language and glorify some of the things we know to be sinful, I.E. alcohol & drug abuse, disrespectful comments about women, mockery of those who are different from the national 'norm', and even though I may get laughed at or have my comments shrugged off in jest... When I tell them of thier wrongs, I'm sure it has some effect, wether conciously or sub-conciously because I notice that they dont tend to use certain words or talk about certain things around me anymore, I suppose they think thats out of respect for me, but I know that it is them who now recognise thier actions as sinful, and hopefully that may grow within them and they may just stop some of these sins altogether... I guess what I'm saying is your right to bring this issue up and raise awareness of the proper way to conduct yourself. Apart from that, Thank you, It's discussions like this that make me aware of my own wrongdoing and make me strive to conduct myself in a more appropriate way in the future.
