Why aren't we taken seriously?? Is it because we aren't as vocal about it as veggies??

...oreo n icecream milkshake.

..i couldnt even give these away lol.

allah swt raises and lowers as he wills.

Could someone please explain why it might be sin to eat Oreo..Given the toxins in food and medicine these days(for years and years) a bit of rennet seems insignificant, is rennet the only issue here if so why? Cheese is made with the stuff, is cheese Halal?

Well it has nothing to do with Oreo, it has to do with the ingredients. I myself do eat Oreo's, however this is based on that i have found no pork or just animal gelatin in it. In general if there are ingredients that are prohibited as Muslims we do not eat. As for example pork and non-halal food are prohibited to eat. Although if i eat Oreo's is if somebody offers it to me. I try to eat more healthy food and snacks instead.

So as Muslims IF it is clear that it contains such ingredients, we better stay away from it, sometimes even in unclear situations better abstain eating or drinking it. I have heard from some scholars that say if it contains such small amounts, it is still permissible to eat. However i ask myself will i die if i do not eat that particular food? Nope. So that is why i just abstain from eating it. An example of that is Coca Cola, 2 years ago or so, i read that Coca Cola indeed contains very small amounts of alcohol as the company even confirmed it. So i abstained from drinking it. The question is, will it harm me from not drinking it? Well hahahaha Coca Cola or coke in general is already some nasty drink and very unhealthy, so i am not missing out whatsoever :). There is always, tea, coffee, water, fruit juices etc. Although i can also drink fanta, 7 up, dr pepper..you name it.

This website seems interesting....http://www.food-info.net/uk/qa/qa-fi45.htm

About the E-colours 304 and 306, from what I understand, 306 is definitely vegan and hence halal, with 304 it is *usually* vegan but not always. I would like to think that the fact Oreo biscuits are listed as 'suitable for vegetarians' it means they've derived their 304 from plants...

But definitely check out some of the vegetarian or vegan forums, they are serious about what they eat and have helped me tremendously in the past.

E-colours really get on my nerves sometimes...

So anything that contains ingredients from animals killed in a certain non halal way as well as anything containing Pork?
If so it must be mine field..
What about toxins, most processed and commercially grown veg and meats and medicines is toxic these days..Doesnt it say somewhere in a Hadith a toxin even in small amount is Haram?
Dont waste your time replying if you dont want, i have for a long time tried to satay away from such foods anyway..Including Pork, i had a tour of a commercial Pig farm once, i could never support that industry, how those creatures are treated is a sin for sure..

Main reason i am replying to thread, I heard on Radio earlier, a study showed Oreos to be more addictive than Cocaine and Heroin, i kid you not..:D

The more dedicated you become in your religion, the more you are aware of those things and keep in mind what to eat and what not to eat. For you right now, you think..wooow a mountain to climb and so hard. However, if you have never done that and suddenly just jump in it, it is rather difficult so to say. However slowly your habits change and you automatically look at the ingredients. Often because i am aware of those additives you automatically also notice how much c**p is put in our food so to say. It is not food anymore. In other words, i have stopped eating A LOT of food although it may not contain pork or non-halal additives. Just seeing all those additives that really are not good for your body, well i was thinking never mind then. I about 2 years ago started to experiment with meat. Slowly eating less meat. First once a week, to make a sandwich with some chicken meat. Then i was planning to eat once every two weeks, but i automatically ate once maybe every month.

I noticed two things. It almost tasted as if somebody had put A LOT of fat in that chicken that i was always buying and eating. This was because my tastebuds were going in to their original start so to say. So i tasted A LOT of fat. That was just nasty. All the meat that i ate at peoples houses was tasting as if i was eating just some fat. So when i ate meat i only took a small part, off course people being all surprised about why i did not grab the most delicious part of the meal..(the meat) XD.

The second thing i noticed, i suddenly lost a lot of my belly fat, without doing that much exercise, as a matter of fact, i was even exercising less, but i lost a lot of fat around the sides. That was some very surprising stuff.

A third thing i also noticed was, that the muscles i had, didn't really go away that much. It adapted but not as how those expert say. I became a bit less, but i still have a lot of muscles, despite me eating now and then some eggs and dates. For the rest, i eat what i want to eat. I have also tried to eat less. As our prophet has said to fill up your stomach with 1/3 food, 1/3 water, 1/3 air. In other words, never fill up your stomach. This also is very surprising as you have more energy if you do that.

About the Oreo's well it doesn't surprise me whatsoever. Criminals will do whatever to keep selling their products. In the recent years i was losing a lot of hair getting bald fast. However since i changed my diet, my hair loss suddenly has slowed down. Although i do not care so much a bout it, as i have shaved my head a couple of times in the past it baldness suits me :). Alhamdulillah.

I have also experimented with different food, for example eggs from the far or the grocery store. Different taste and different color. Just the same with milk and yogurt and other things. What you buy in the grocery store to me i know i have something in my mouth but it is tasteless. This year for the first time growing some cucumbers, potatoes, watermelon, strawberries, herbs and different types of tomatoes on the balcony.

Btw, better replying to some respectful talk, instead of watching some useless videos on youtube :).

Idk if this is true, but is there bone char in Oreos??

For chocolate:

there is this E-number: E322 on it. It is Lecitihin, afaik. It is to soften, say chocolate. AFAIK. Is it halal? Because it can be taken from egg-yolk or soy-beans but also animals??

But since on the packaging on the chocolate it says "(E322)" only. SO Idk if from animals, or plants??

SubhanAllah, the more I see into the e-numbers the more I doubt what I eat.

Akhi, I do consider myself quite vigilant when it comes to food, but sometimes it can come to a point of paranoia where you are wary of eating everything, lol.

I think ultimately anything we eat could be traced back to, or have been contaminated with, something questionable. When it comes to food, I check the 'Suitable for Vegetarians' label, look for a questionable ingredient like rennet, shellac, carmine, alcohol and then there are 4 e-colours I watch out for:

E120 Cochineal : a red colour obtained from female insects

E441 Gelatine : derived from the bones and/ or hides of cattle and/ or pigs

E542 Edible Bone Phosphate : an extract from animal bones

E904 Shellac : a resin from the lac insect

If something has none of these things, it's generally clear in'sha'Allah.

So don't kill yourself over it. About Lecithin though, if it is derived from animals it *won't* be suitable for vegetarians, and the Oreo website says they are vegetarian, so I'd say it is soy lecithin.

If you are really uncomfortable, then just leave it. Since I've taken more care, I'm actually quite a bit more healthy as I go for more organic foods or bake my own things at home :).

:salam:

From what I know (from a google search) some of the oreos' sugar might be processed with bone char. (from a veggie site)

Besides, the Glucose-Fructose Syrup seems to be proccessed with Genetically Modified corn (GM corn) . Which is bad. are the apples and vegetables at the grocery store even fully natural? I doubt it.

my question is, if the sugar is processed with bone char, is it haram? Secondly, it is not written in the packaging.

As for that link, I'd like to try to bake that lol.

Until you find out just avoid it. Save your Diin. This world is but a few days.

Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir:

I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, 'Both legal and illegal things are evident but in between them there are doubtful (suspicious) things and most of the people have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor. And whoever indulges in these suspicious things is like a shepherd who grazes (his animals) near the Hima (private pasture) of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it. (O people!) Beware! Every king has a Hima and the Hima of Allah on the earth is His illegal (forbidden) things. Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart

[Sahih al-Bukhaari Hadith No. 52]

Better safe than sorry.

JazakAllah khayr for reminding me.

I totally forgot. I will avoid it, and save my deen. This means that everytime I am in doubt about an ingredient, I avoid it.
