Is Sharia law harsh?

Most people, even some muslims in the West regard Sharia laws practices as barbaric practices like killing people for adultery.

But look what happens in the West when we ignore the sanctity of marriage, sex is a free for all, we do what pleases us. This might be ok if there are no children, but in the UK, by the time a child reaches fifteen, about half of them are not living with both their biological parents.

I met a lad yesterday, his step dad kicked him out of his home, and he is sleeping rough in a tent. The lad lost his job and his future is bleak, if he had both his parents, in a loving relation, they would help their child. So many children are deeply disturbed, God created us for relationships, and we turn away form God.

I would argue, that when we turn away from God, we pretty much condemn our children to an uncertain life, the children suffer for the infidelities of their parents. The fear of God and the fear of retribution should encourage us to try and do what is right.

In the spirit of praying to a just and merciful God.

Indeed,

I would also add that we should seek to understand why God gives us rules, the reasoning behind them give us a clarity that God loves us and wishes for us to have safe, secure lives, safe livelihoods, and a firm reliance on HIM when we ourselves see no clear path ahead of us.

In understanding this, the fear is lessened as a desire to please HIM grows within us allowing us to understand that living a good life in line with HIS recommendations is the best way to be - we grow to Love HIM more, appreciate HIM more, and rely on HIM more - and the fear of upsetting Allah isn't grounded in hellfire as much, because the emotions are now shared with the idea of upsetting the One God WHO loves us we love more than everything else in existence - Allah.

The fear will always be there, but with time, the love and desire to please HIM, grows exponentially - and the fear lessens, but remains due to the "uncertainty" factor - however - what has grown is the TRUST in Allah, and that balance between Love for Allah and Fear of Allah can be achieved this way if Allah wills.

The Shariah is a blessing from Allah :swt1: and, as such, is fair and just. Whether or not it is "harsh" is a subjective question. If anyone is concerned that it is somehow harsh then the simple solution is to stay on the right side of the law - "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime".
 
You do not believe in Shari'ah (is how I understood you) because you are not educated. You should educate yourself. Shari'ah is better for the world. There are so many exceptions to hadd punishments! See Saudia Arabia about Shar'ah,please.

Hahah criticizing the laws of God that people of whims and desires even rejected in times of Moses. Our intelligence is restricted. Talking shar'ah to people who do not find it normal is like us talking to animals. They don't understand.

We should not criticize things we do not have knowledge about. You believe what you do because of your environment. "People are a product of their environment? Why are you right and I am wrong?

Yes, Shari'ah is strict.

It is brilliantly explained by our brother Scimi.

He wants us to be safe, that's why its strict, because it will occur again and again and again, once it happens, it will happen again, and it should be stopped and must never happen again, so clearly its not harsh, it just wants us to stay safe.

When you say "most people" then you must mean those whose image and perception of Islam predominantly come from mainstream and social media. Surely we as Muslims should learn the correct knowledge and understanding of Shariah so we are not deceived like "most people" that you refer to. Have you ever looked into Shariah to find out the truth or are you juist spewing what you have seen and heard from the media?

My brother when we base our understanding of our Deen upon the "unIslamic" practices of some so called "Muslim" governments and what goes on in some Muslim countries which is not representative of true Islam and Shariah, then obviously we will also become confused, misled and bewildered with certain aspects of our Deen. There is no country in this world that is under a proper Islamic system or Shariah so where are we getting our image, perception and knowledge of the "Shariah" if it is not in the mainstream media?

When you have mobs in Muslim countries "taking things into their own hands" then this is jahiliyat (ignorance) and based purely on ignorance and culture not Islam. These people or mobs are not under a proper Shariah system nor are they following Islamic law when they take action against an "alleged" apostate" or a "blasphemer" or someone whose done an alleged crime. True Shariah is that Islamic law is followed under a proper Shariah rule and treated fairly and justly in accordance with Islamic law in the Shariah courts. Otherwise the rules of the country are to be followed. But the media purposely try to tarnish the image of Shariah by claiming that these mobs are "implementing" Shariah and make it out to be an archaic, backward and brutal system. Therefore we must not allow the mainstream media to misrepresent the Shariah and Islamic law and should dismiss such actions from these mobs as jahiliyat and culture and nothing to do with Islam.

So my brother if our Imaan is already weakened by a lack of knowledge, confusion and false image of our own Deen then surely we must concentrate on learning the correct knowledge so we can gain the true understanding of our Deen and not what is misrepresented by the enemies of Islam. It is most important in your case to learn about Deen via your local Masjid/Madressah/Islamic Centre as learning correct knowledge of Deen in this age of ignorance is of utmost importance. Therefore we must learn the correct knowledge of our Deen in order to clarify any misconceptions and confusion otherwise we will be easily misled and that will have a detrimental affect on our Imaan.

May Allah enable us to learn the correct knowledge of our deen so we are not misled and led astray by deception and lies. Ameen
 
1st: the punishments that are harsh are relative to the act, when the act will produce a great corruption, the punishment must be harsh, so that no one do it

2nd: not all haram things have a shariah punishment, just the things that affect the society and corrupt it, but most of the things necessitate repentance only

3rd: the condition to apply the shariah laws are difficult to be fulfilled, so that it is not done randomly, like for fornication, there must be four witnesses that see it directly, this is very difficult to happen, actually it never happened

4th: When a women came to the prophet admitting that she commited fornication and she repent, he told her to go until she deliver her baby, giving her a chance not to come back, when she returned he told her to go and come after he finishes nursing, giving her a chance not to come back.

So shariah law punishment is not done to any one, or any act, the act itself must have many conditions that should be fulfilled
