Well you've listed a few things which we can do, now let me tell you my opinion of them.

- spending quality time with ones family - That's what most people do anyway. isn't it?

- Sports as a means of fitness/ exercise -
Most people are involved with sport in some way, some might play football in the park, some might play cricket, some may prefer to enjoy golf.

- Visiting the orphan, the sick in hospitals, the aged in old-age homes - How realistic is this in 21st century western world, even if it were viable how often can you afford to travel to an orphanage?

- Getting involved in community projects, dawah - Boring, really boring, I've been involved before and it's as exciting as watchign trees grow.

- Reading (actual books from our learned scholars - tabloids dont count) - Not interested.

- Listening to beneficial talks and lectures.
- Not interested.

- Engaging in crafts - e.g. sewing, wood-work - Boring.

- Gardening - Boring

Basically the suggestions you have given are either boring or we already do them.

The fact is, I enjoy watching sport and playing games much more than things like gardening and reading.

Ok akhee....

May Allah (subhanawataála) guide us all towards that which is most pleasing to Him.
Ameen

I read the first posts also. Members whose say it is not allowed to watch football (women look men - men look women playing it) may mean that it is quite physical act to play it. I don´t know is it haram to look sport competitions in general like running or swimming or high jumping if athlete is opposite gender?

^o)

What about watching ice hockey? In there players have so much clothes on that it is not same - it is difficult to see even are they male or female.

;D

Why we think is watching football prohibited for girls? Is it prohibited for boys too?

^o)
