Islam and Wolrd/Inner Peace

Assalamu alaikum

Hi everyone, I will start by saying that I am not a muslim, but have nothing but respect for Islam Im a high school student currently in his last year with exams coming up, one of my topics is 'Studies of Religion' and the exam features a section on either World or Inner peace, and I must choose a religion to write about and how it promotes world peace or inner peace for the individual, I have decided that I will write about Islam in this section of the exam.

I was wondering if any members of this forum would mind giving me their personal oppinion on how Islam promoted world/inner peace. Or at least giving me an idea where I could find some good websites to continue my research. Some quotes from the Koran would be great!

Contrary to the image the media portrays of Muslims we are not violent people. Quite the opposite. The rest is all politics. Nothing to do with Islam.

It is my understanding that an individual must wage an jihad in order to achieve inner peace. Inner peace is also acheived by following the guidance of the Koran and the five pillars of Islam, Im sure its much more detailed then that, but is that correct?

The literal meaning of the word Jihad is "Struggle". It has nothing to do with waging a holy war or anything of that sort.

Even resisting temptation of things that are bad for you is a Jihad.

Ah yes, the greater and lesser Jihad right? The greater jihad being the struggle to stay obedient to the will of Allah (the internal struggle?) and the lesser being the physical struggle against those who oppress Islam or its people?

that video was great, its such a shame that I rarely get to see things like that in the western media
