what i mean is that isn't spending hours painting n stuff (cos it takes hours) a waste of time? that's why i left it

:sl:

Yeh it is but I usually listen to something while I am doing it, like an Islamic lecture or something that way its not a waste.

And anyway i find that its a good way to relax every now and then. No one said life had to be filled totally with seriousness, theres time for doing stuff to relax in between everything else. :)

^umm... paint something real nice and then tell people to sell it when you die and give the money to charity? :?

actually u know wat happneed this 60 year old bro made all these paintings for a charity event... to sell n all the money goes back to charity

lol the auctioneer started the price from 150 and not a single of his paintings where sold ;D (out of like 7 or 8 A1 size paintings lol)

i must say... 150 for a painting.. to me is overvalued.. yes the amoutn of hours put in is prob worth thousands... but the final product is simply not worth it lol. same goes for CG too btw :hiding:

salamz

:sl:

its NOT easy to sell your paintings!! not at allll you have to be reallllly good and even then, its helps if youre dead! lol

($150 is nothing!!)

if ur dead? y? does the cost of the painting then include the value of the lost soul?

:sl:

lol, i thought everyone knew that? Van gough never got a cent for his artwork (i think)... n now they are worth millions...

I just assumed it was becuase they now know that the person wont produce anymore artwork and once they all get sold thats it... no more...

(p.s. i was kinda kidding about the painting for charity thing lol)

what?????? r u lot blind? :giggling: man how come I only got two compliments for my master piece eh???

lol nvm.. I was reading a fatwa about hanging up pics of verses.. and it said that it's not permissable as the Quran was revealed to read and understand not to be used as decoration and most of them are unreadable cuz of the way they are written... and also that we could be accidently disrespecting ayahs if they are accidently throw away etc etc....

That made me think of the amount of muslims (me too) having framed ayahs in their homes.. imagine where earthquakes happen and these ayahs end up in the rubble...not nice :(

I also saw a frame in the Islamic Relief warehouse that was made of Allah's names written on bits of wood and glued to the background.. half the Names had dropped off and were lying on the floor.. me and my mom colledted what we could find and she took it home so it doesnt get disrespected anymore...

This lead me to wonder if artwork should consist of islamic calligraphy and such? Not sure... needs to be researched.

And btw, my painting was done b4 I knew it was haram to draw animals... just in case sum1 stars picking on me ;D

wa'alaikum aslam.

:sl:

^interesting points. I cant even read them man, the way they write the verses, its like uh thats just too confusing.

I was gonna mention its haram to draw animals, good that you said it first. ;) but arent you meant to destroy the pic? :? Thats what I did with mine...

ohhhh this topic inspired me ohhhhh now i have no choice but to scribble something..plant,dog,cow ANYTHING!!!

watch out watch out:muslimah:

:salamext:

i cant help but feel the logic is flawed, if earthquakes happen all the Quran's we have will also be damaged not to mention all other islamic books.

Keep it on the shelf, hang it on the wall - same thing, except if you hang it on the wall people are more likely to read it so its a better reminder.

my understanding.

Good point.. I forgot I had it until this thread came up.

I've seen fatwas declaring that drawing pictures of aniamls and humans is haraam and yesterday I found this one saying it's not haraam as long as they're not made with the intention of worship.
Question: Assalamu alaikum,

My question is referring to drawing pictures. Is it permissible to draw pictures of people and animals just as long as they don't look too real like some artist paintings and also that they don't get hanged?

May Allah bless u 4 ur time.

ANSWER:
We’d like first to state that there is nothing wrong in drawing as long as the images do not depict nudity or other indecent representations. Also, the picture or image should not be revered or glorified. The haram pictures and images are only those, which are worshiped and revered.

Within these restrictions drawing humans, animals, natural scenes, etc. is permitted. What is prohibited is making a statue or a sculpture of a living being that has shade (depth or three dimensional).

Here, we’d like to cite for you the following Fatwa:

"One may draw pictures of people, animals, etc. as long as they don’t depict anything against Islamic guidelines. It is important to understand that Muslims don't replicate 'images' because they believe that on the Day of Judgment, they will be asked to put a soul in the 'images' they made, challenging Allah’s creation. Also, they don't replicate 'images' believing that the Angels will not enter their houses. This is based on several authentic Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.

However, in the Arabic Language, what we call Sourah or commonly translated as 'image' can mean several things, and in the context of the prohibition, it means a statute or a sculpture of a living being that has shade (depth or three dimensional) and not a photographic picture."

Happy drawing!

is this site misleading us?

Most likely. The way I see it, prophet Muhammad pbuh would be the LAST PERSON EVER to start worshipping an idol, and yet even he was forbidden from drawing that kind of stuff and the angel jibreel didnt go into his house either because of the drawings...

So, if the angels didnt enter prophet Muhammads pbuh house, as if they would enter our houses!! And like I said, he would be the last person to worship a drawing, so if it was forbidden for him then for sure it would be forbidden for us too... we arent better than him!!!

salamz bro (referrin 2 prsn above the above, posted same time,:raging: ) lol besides the fact it seems 2 resemble human (which is haram :X) there's a hilarious contrast between the tone of the background and the impression given off from the face of the angry fella!

lol.. normally u'd have a background that reflects the tone of the foreground...

but neway... avoid drawin lifeforms n stuff insahalh :).
