im suprised they actually look that physically matured. i thought with so much complications, they would have died at a much earlier age?

A liger is an offspring of a lion and a tigress (female tigers)[1]. They very rarely are conceived in the wilderness, as habitat where ranges of lions and tigresses overlap are quite rare. Some ligers look more tiger like, and others more lion like[2]. Male ligers are sterile, but female ligers are quite often, fertile[3]. Ligers are scientifically referred to as Panthera leo/tigris[4].

Ligers are known as the largest cat in the world. - "Ligers – result of breeding a male lion to a tigress = largest cat in the world." $site. March 15, 2010. $publisher, Web. March 15, 2010. <http://strangehybrids.com/?p=24>
