Hello all, hope everyone is in good health.
I have an issue I am hoping yall will be able to help me with.
I have a very large extended family, 6 in my immediate. When I was a child we had tons of people at our house all the time. Now its usually just the 6 of us or some visitors who find the time to visit us.
Part of the reason we dont have as many visitors is because we live kind of far, but the main is because my aunts and uncles have very very weak deen or none at all. My parents however are pious, and myself with a few of my siblings are as well.
When my parents first got married, everyone loved my mom. Everyone was nice to her. Soon as my other uncles got married however, the rivalries began. My mother listened to my father 1st above everyone else and when he forbade her to take any sides, she remained nuetral. The other sister in laws didnt like that. Eventually one, the ring lead, turned them all against my mother.
Long story short, my relatives blame my mother for my father turning into a "imam wannabe." thats what Ive heard my own cousins call my dad several times because they know he prays.
One time a cousin saw me with hijab and she said "oh you poor poor thing"
Last but not least, they drink and go to parties and clubs and casinos
We do not, and there is absolutely no alcohol permitted in our house or on our property.
So now we dont really have strong ties to them. If we became like them, we probably would but we put Islam first.
My dilemma is this: because of these circumstances is it excusable that we dont have the best family ties with them considering our adherence to Islam and their lack of it?
