more than one wife?

i have a question
[h=1]Why does the Quran allow Muslim men to have more than one wife?[/h]i have researched the topic but can't find a good answer that i understand

The muslim (people of the Books) way should be that we wish for our neighbours what we wish for ourselves.

It is about community.

To have a strong community, the weak must be protected.

Who are the weak? In most cases orphans or widows. So, if widows were taken as wives, they could take care of orphans, and you'd get a very strong society.

That's as simple as I can put it. Of course, there are people who abuse this...
