Need help preparing for a job interview

I have to talk about the following, but I'm not really sure what to talk about, is there a right or wrong answer to these kind of questions?


You should prepare a presentation for the Assessment day, detailing your motivation for applying for the role. Please include the following information in your presentation:

• An Introduction about yourself including an interesting fact!
• Why you want to work for the company
• What interests you about the role
• What do you think will be the most positive and also the most challenging aspects of the role
• Why you think you will be suited for the role
 
Assalamu-alaikum,

Im not sure what this positions entails, but heres a few quick examples that come to mind:


• An Introduction about yourself including an interesting fact!

This basically would be who you are, where u are from, where u studied, your past working experiences, your interests, etc.
Include any achievements, extra courses you may have taken.
And sum up with something interesting, and maybe different about yourself - e.g you enjoy rock-climbing and adrenalin sports......or even something simple, e.g. Im a great cook!......maybe also include a little humour here (not too much though) - some humour is good in lightening the mood.

• Why you want to work for the company
You should try and research the company as much as possible - via their website, or even make a visit, if possible.
Try and obtain as much information about the company, its past performance, etc - and in your own words, include this in your presentation.

• What interests you about the role

• What do you think will be the most positive and also the most challenging aspects of the role
Im not sure what the role is....:hmm:

• Why you think you will be suited for the role
Include positive attributes about yourself - e.g being hard-working, self-motivated, expierenced in this field? - just be honest though :)
Mention that you have always had a passion for this career, and you look forward to be part of such a dynamic team/ organisation, etc.....

The most important thing you must do in order to succeed with covering all of these points is:

RESEARCH THE COMPANY, ITS HISTORY, PRODUCTS, SHORT AND LONG TERM GOALS AND THE JOB ROLE YOU ARE APPLYING FOR.

So when you are asked any question about the company give them some facts about the company and why it is so dynamic and a wonderful company to work for. Also research the role you are going for properly and that way you will be able to tell them WHY you are the best person for that role and how you will fulfill that role in the best way and manner possible.

So do the research, be confident, trust in Allah that if this role is best for you then you will get it and if not then Allah will have something better in store for you.

aah bro, thats a bit iffy. You do know that most satellite channels have porn and what not, so not sure if we want to install them. Ask a sheikh.

Do you have any other job opportunities?

I did similar kind of job in my high school, I had to sell some kitchen stuff from door to door, I hated it. It depends on your personality if you really like knocking on people's doors and hearing all sorts of crap from them, them closing doors on you. I realized it was not for me. I rather flip burgers at burger king.

Name, where you're from, where and what you studied, something about yourself that not many people know - eg; you can speak 5 languages

• Why you want to work for the company

Company has good values; give examples, fast growing and innovative company, provide you with good opportunities to progress,

• What interests you about the role

Practical aspects, working with technical equipment, interacting with customers


• What do you think will be the most positive and also the most challenging aspects of the role

Achieving good end results, getting jobs done to a high standard and efficiency etc.

• Why you think you will be suited for the role

This is where you have to boast about yourself

I have such and such skills.. I've done this in the past, I can do this and that.. Some key words; enthusiastic, self-motivated, like to take on challenges, organised, interpersonal skills, etc

May Allah give you success bro, give examples throughout the interview, will back you up loads. Also look up the person interviewing you, if they're professional they may have a profile online that you can talk about - ask them about their work, show interest.

Cooking burgers at burger king is haram as you're directly involved in supplying haram goods.

Fitting service equipment unlikely to be haram, its up to you what you intend to do with those services.
 
probably the worst question which they start with is ''Tell me about yourself'' and it is open ended so technically you can start anywhere but they'd like for you to target your answers to fit how your whole life is leading to that job so try to focus the replies to suit that because that probably is the deciding factor of whether they hire you or not.
Don't mention any negatives about yourself and if there are negatives i.e. they actually ask you what are your strengths and weaknesses then make sure all your weaknesses are actually positives. 'I tend to be driven or a perfectionist' or one of those you know but make it sound sincere and be your lovable self.. insha'Allah, Allah swt will open doors for you for all that is good..

you could also mention the fact that you were trying to find a good place for your own router and played about with different possibilities and ideal locations in your head and it got you interested and that you enjoyed fixing it, you can even joke about how proud you are of your work.
light hearted humour (not too much) can sometimes bring about a smile which causes the observer to think positively of your next comments and also shows the ability to provide good customer service.

Sorry I've got nothing to add to the already good advice. Perhaps just on clothing. Male interviewers would be in a suit and tie and would be expecting the same from you. No jeans. Make sure hair is neat, and nails and shoes are clean. All the best insha Allah.

It could be just fish burgers flippin'. Or the ice cream guy at dairy queen (would love that job).

TV aint any halal. Almost all channels have scantily clad tv anchors.

again, dont wanna "demotivate" the brother. Just sayin'.

the harsh reality of not living under Khilafah is that almost all out transactions involve some element of ribah, and even the taxes go towards giving children condoms and sex instructions, and guarding strip clubs and porn shops and gambling sops and casinos and alcohol.
and even illegal wars.
i would think that the job of installing tv and telephone is not wrong in and of itself,
if i sell laptops or help set up routers for them and people watch dodgy stuff on the net with them, surely i am not to blame.

the reason i stopped doing home visits though is because some women didn't have their husbands at home and would tell me how stuck they were and needed help with their computers and it felt awkward and i'd sometimes have to haul the kids and their mother along with me just to do a repair.
i remember asking one woman to phone when her husband's in and she said he would be, i went and she said he wasn't able to make it.
that's the scary part, as, if you're working for a company, you won't so easily be able to decline.
but them watching haram stuff despite you setting up something halal - come on man? ^o)

lol bro, i just said that he can ask a sheikh. thats not my main contention, not sure why you guys made a big deal out of that.

my point was that if this job involves going door to door to sell stuff, it requires lots of "guts" to take ppl's harsh words and their crap. it depends on personality you have. if you are talkative and made of kevlar skin then one might like it. on the other hand if the job requires you to visit ppl's house once they call in the company that something is wrong then that seems fine, as these ppl wont be closing the doors on you or treating you like crap.

Well I didn't get it, I passed the assessment day but they said I'm over qualified since this is an apprenticeship level 3 scheme, and I have/will inshaAllah be a graduate :hmm: but they said they'll keep my details if a non apprentice role becomes available they'll call me.

MashaAllah bro - to be fortunate enough to be too qualified for a position : )

This job was not meant for you.......perhaps Allah has saved something even better in the future, insha Allah.

Make duaa that Allah guides you towards halaal income, and that which is good for you.
Just keep trying Akhi.

I got offered the job today :) they said they had a non apprentice opening in my locality and they want me to start on the 16th of April and they're going to train me up. Alhamdulilah, the only thing is I have exams beginning from the 20th and uni deadlines, do you think it would be ok to ask for them days off to finish my uni exams for my degree or won't they like it?
