as salamu laikum brothers and sisters i am in a bit of a bind. i was seeing this girl before i embraced islam. she is a christian. well she has had a hard time understanding my deen. as you all know it is haram to fornicate. unfortunately i have committed this sin. well i know that it is permissible to marry, "people of the book" but only if they are chaste. well she isn't chaste and i wanted some sort of advice as to where we should from here. any advice is greatly appreciated. shukran salam

To be honest, I think the only option is to stop seeing her. Unless she converts (and it has to be for the sake of Allah, not to be able to marry you), you can't marry her. And since she is a woman that is not your mahram, ie. not your mom/sister/aunt/daughter/etc., you can't even be alone with her in a room.

What I read in Quran is that we can't marry "Mushriks" = "who make partners with Allah".

Trinitarian Christians r "Mushriks" since they make a Human Prophet & a spirit created by God as equal to God. So we can't marry Trinitarian Christians.

Unitarian Christians & such other scts keep Jesus at lower level & don't equate him with God, so we can marry such christians.

Ask forgiveness from GOD Almighty, for what was done & look around u'll find countless beautifuls that would be ur type.

Here r verses from Qur'aan & Ahadees that prove we can NOT marry Trinitarians.

First this Hadees, which clearly forbids marrying anyone who says Eesa(Jesus) was god or son of God:-
Bukhari:63:209.:-
Narated By Nafi' : Whenever Ibn 'Umar was asked about marrying a Christian lady or a Jewess, he would say: "Allah has made it unlawful for the believers to marry ladies who ascribe partners in worship to Allah, and I do not know of a greater thing, as regards to ascribing partners in worship, etc. to Allah, than that a lady should say that Jesus is her Lord although he is just one of Allah's slaves."

Now 1st i must make clear that in Quran commands r scattered e.g., inheritance laws r given in verses in different locations NOT all in one place. So to derive the whole "LAW" we must consider all of them, NOT just few of them.


Similarly verses on marrying POB r scattered.

Here's the verse that allows marrying "Chaste" POB:-الْيَوْمَ أُحِلَّ لَكُمُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ وَطَعَامُ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَابَ حِلٌّ لَّكُمْ وَطَعَامُكُمْ حِلُّ لَّهُمْ وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ إِذَا آتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ مُحْصِنِينَ غَيْرَ مُسَافِحِينَ وَلاَ مُتَّخِذِي أَخْدَانٍ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِالإِيمَانِ فَقَدْ حَبِطَ عَمَلُهُ وَهُوَ فِي الآخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ ﴿٥﴾
Q:5:5:-This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed before your time(correct translation would be:- "and chaste women out of those who were given The Book before you"),- when ye give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues if any one rejects faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).




Now here's the verse that prohibits marrying "Musriks", though translators don't translate properly:-
وَلاَ تَنكِحُواْ الْمُشْرِكَاتِ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنَّ وَلأَمَةٌ مُّؤْمِنَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِّن مُّشْرِكَةٍ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ وَلاَ تُنكِحُواْ الْمُشِرِكِينَ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنُواْ وَلَعَبْدٌ مُّؤْمِنٌ خَيْرٌ مِّن مُّشْرِكٍ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَكُمْ أُوْلَئِكَ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى النَّارِ وَاللّهُ يَدْعُوَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَالْمَغْفِرَةِ بِإِذْنِهِ وَيُبَيِّنُ آيَاتِهِ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ ﴿٢٢١﴾

Q:2:221:-Do not marry (Mushrikaati = mushrik women)unbelieving women (idolaters), until they believe: A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to (Mushrikeena = mushrik men) unbelievers until they believe: A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise.

Now following Q:5:17 say that who call Jesus as god , do "KUFR", & the one who does "KUFR" r called "Kafirs". & then Q:60:10 says that do NOT marry "Kafirs":-

Q:5:17:In blasphemy indeed(Kafara) كَفَرَ are those that say that Allah is Christ the son of Mary. Say: "Who then hath the least power against Allah, if His will were to destroy Christ the son of Mary, his mother, and all every - one that is on the earth? For to Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between. He createth what He pleaseth. For Allah hath power over all things."



Q:60:10:[COLOR="Green"]-O ye who believe! When there come to you believing women refugees, examine (and test) them: God knows best as to their Faith: if ye ascertain that they are Believers, then send them not back to the Unbelievers. They are not lawful (wives) for the Unbelievers, nor are the (Unbelievers) lawful (husbands) for them. But pay the Unbelievers what they have spent (on their dower), and there will be no blame on you if ye marry them on payment of their dower to them. But hold not to the guardianship of (Kawafir)الْكَوَافِرِ unbelieving women: ask for what ye have spent on their dowers, and let the (Unbelievers) ask for what they have spent (on the dowers of women who come over to you). Such is the command of God: He judges (with justice) between you. And God is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom.[/COLOR]

Salam aleykum all4islam.First of all welcome to Islam..I think if you find a scholar imam to ask the question is the best way or search through the internet since you'll find some different answers from different people here , you are alread given two different opinions.Mine is different too.In Islam your past sins are forgiven when you enter the religion.And acording to opinion of the majority no matter wether trinitarian or not the christians are considered the people of Book.Therefor 'I think' you can marry to her.But as caryon stressed, flirting is not helal in Islam.If you want to marry, go and tell her directly that you want to marry and wait for the answer.

salam, if she is not muslim and doesnt believe in Allah then u shouldnt marry her. i understand u used to date and u stopped when u became a muslim. in islam, it is haram to mix with girls and dat. fair enough u were talking about the deen but sometimes u have to sacrifice some things for the sake of Allah, and Allah will reward u for it. but if u keep mixing with dis girl, u will be tempted into haram. its ur choice but i think this girl is just part of ur old life, ur haram christian life. islam is ur future and this girl will might just get in da way and u might end having feeelings for her again, start dating her, and go back to ur old ways. some things u just have to let go, even if it seems impossible and Allah will reward u for ur efforts.
