North Korea says missiles ‘aimed at’ US

Insane?

On this particular point at least, they are utmostly rational. No country with nukes has ever fallen to foreign invasion. And history so far has shown that while countries that try to get nukes often get opposed during the acquisition process, the pressure invariably loosens and the world community resigns to accepting your nukes as a done deal, a fait accompli, the moment you actually have them. Did you hear about the concerted international effort to make India, Pakistan and Israel give up their nukes? Neither did I.

Yes, but in NK's case, they already have an effective nuclear deterrent - it's called China.

China bailed them out in 1950-3 when communism still mattered and ever since China has been an absolute guarantee that no one was going to invade NK, even if they wanted to (and this is SK's decision, not the US).

So why would a starving nation pay so much money for a deterrent they have had for free anyway for more than half a century? It only makes sense if a) they don't want it for deterrence, they want it for attack, or b) they are insane.

Actually you can have a) and b) together.

There's no cosmic force in the universe that forces China to use its nukes in North Korea's defence. Nothing can compensate for having your own finger on the launch button. Would China engage in nuclear war to rescue a client state whose utility is largely to be a minor thorn in the side of its rival USA? Hardly. If North Korea were to be invaded by conventional arms only, China might not like it, but China would definitely not escalate the situation into nuclear war.

The only logic I can see for Kim Jung Un, is his saber waving is to impress the North Koreans.

I do not see him actually invading anybody. Nor do I see anybody invading NM.

However, after nothing happens he will have bragging rights in NK that he had backed down South Korea, the USA, Japan and maybe even China.

He can justify his people starving and show that his programs have "protected" North Korea.

Sort of like a flea challenging a herd of elephants and when the elephants completely ignore the flea the flea can tell all his friends he backed down the elephants.

[h=1]North Korea Forces Await 'Final Strike Order' from Kim Jong-un[/h]
North Korea's armed forces are reported to be awaiting a "final order" from the country's supreme leader Kim Jong-un before launching a campaign against South Korea.

Ahead of a ten-day joint computer-simulated drill to be conducted by the US and South Korea on 11 March, the North's most widely circulated mouthpiece Rodong Sinmun said: "Our front-line military groups, the army, the navy and the air force, the anti-aircraft units and the strategic rocket units, who have entered the final all-out war stage, are awaiting the final order to strike."
The mouthpiece said the North's nuclear weapons are also in full readiness.
"Puppet regimes in the US and South Korea will be turned into a sea of fire in the blink of an eye," said the daily, raising tensions further in the Korean peninsula.
South Korea and the US have been conducting a joint field training exercise codenamed Foal Eagle since 1 March, and this is likely to go on until the end of April.

Nearly 10,000 South Korean troops and 3,500 American forces along with fighter planes are involved in the manoeuvres.
South Korea says the exercises are intended to secure its territories, but Pyongyang charges that they are aimed at the North.
The North has also announced that it will conduct a two-day nationwide military exercise in response to the US-South Korea drill.
Local reports suggest that Kim has also been visiting strategically important military installations in the country in the wake of the volatile situation.
A military source in Seoul has told the Yonhap news agency that Pyongyang is likely to fire short-range missiles or resort to other forms of attack during the drill. The source vowed to retaliate with greater force if South Korean sovereignty is violated.

The "Great Satan" is drooling in expectation. A war in the Far East, Japan getting roped in, nukes flying everywhere and "democracy and freedom" and the Zionist way for the survivors. They will even make money with old M*A*S*H reruns or a new version M*O*D*K meaning "millions of dead Koreans" and game version by EA Games.
These poor fools are always taking the bait.
