How about one board which overlaps the brothers and sisters forum?
General questions which require input from both could be asked.... you can call it "The Overlapping Section for Brothers and Sisters Where Both Can Post Topics Forum". Obviously you may have to adjust the column width.

you mean a seperate muslim board

you mean a seperate muslim board

It sounds a bit discriminatory when you put it like that! The 'Brothers' and 'Sisters' boards already exist so I don't see this as that big of a step.

ummah forums have a muslim board, but theres not much point to it as hardly anyone uses it, if anyone wants to say something they'll say it infront of non-muslims as we have nothing to hide

Will this kind of section have any disadvantage?

I don't know. Can you think of any? Discrimination was the only one I could think of. In fact I didn't join the brothers section for years because I thought the main board should be open to all topics. Now my opinion has changed slightly.
If anything it may help the forum become more friendly. I have recently found myself having a much shorter temper when replying to comments from newer members or non-Muslims (especially in threads personally posted). This is not because I dislike them in any way but I find more and more have false motives. I have seen very short tempers from others too.
By having this type of board to post questions which are either on a more religion oriented/sensitive issue, or where you just want a straight answer, not a debate into "is this morally/culturally/philosophically right, this is why I think Muslims are oppressive/extreme/martian", so there will be no need to worry about trolling or purposeful misinformation in otherwise genuine threads. I hope that makes sense.

Maybe I just need anger management or something.

salaam

I think its a good idea

I don't think discrimination is an issue.

This is an Islamic forum. There are certain rules which are biased towards Islam and discriminate against people from other religions. (I am not sure that the term 'discrimination' is legally valid in this context.)

There are already some sections in which non-Muslims cannot post, and other sections in which non-Muslims have no access at all - the gender specific sections.
So from that perspective, it would be no big deal to have a Muslim-only section.

The only question that needs to be asked, is whether a Muslim-only joint-gender section is going to be beneficial and necessary in addition to the Muslim-only sections which already exist. I.e. are there topics or discussions, which require the presence of both genders and the absence of non-Muslim members?

I agree. I think it'll be both benificial and easier to discuss some topics between Muslims only. For example, homosexuality. Usually such threads turn out into as you said "is this morally/culturally/philosophically right, this is why I think Muslims are oppressive/extreme/martian".

In addition, insha'Allah new members will receive better and more knowledgeable responses. For example, I feel that the member Scorpian who left the forum recently didn't get clear and knowledgeable replies in the adultery thread.

Im not the only one thinking these thoughts heh, even though I agree with the open nature of the forum, and we need to experience other peoples points of view and to understand how others see us and if there is if any common ground however the constant barrage from the subtle and not so subtle trolls trying to show us the error of our ways can grate after a while.

Not only that but personally I think it leads to a lot of grandstanding, bitter debates and lots of bad feeling, people cant relax and enjoy genunine discussions, or just enjoy other peoples company.

We Muslims have a lot of issues, difficult issues to discuss, perhaps Dagless suggestion is a good idea to get these discussions going in a safe and friendly enviroment :shade:
