It is common knowledge that the deeper a peg is thrusted into the soil, the stronger it stands. Winds will not move it from its place even if that peg is small. Why?
Because *most* of that peg is positioned underground, in darkness and cannot be seen, whilst only revealing little of itself to people.
Should one however drop a huge peg on the surface of the ground without thrusting it in, relying upon its bulk and weight, the lightest of winds could push it over, why?
Because the whole peg is out in the open, none of it is in darkness, it has no secrets underground.
For those who ask,
“What can I do to work on my sincerity?”
“How can I shield myself from being derailed from the path of Islam?”
“How can I make myself more immune to the many negative influences out there?”
= By asking ourselves, “What is the state of our private acts of worship?”
A man came to Hudhaifa - a companion whom the Prophet PBUH had informed of the names of all of the hypocrites - and said to him: “Am I a hypocrite?”
His response however wasn’t a yes or no, but he gave him a general criteria to think about. He responded:
أتصلي إذا خلوت وتستغفر إذا أذنبت ؟
“Do you pray when you are alone? And do you repent when you commit sin?”
He said, “I do”
So Hudhaifa said,
اذهب فما جعلك الله منافقا
“Then go, because Allah has not made you one of the hypocrites.”
