Salam alaikum.

I am ashamed to admit I’m a drug addict who is quitting cold turkey, I am sober for a week now.

For months I have been praying 5 times a day and reading at least one Surah daily.

Even though I know it’s wrong to say, all this dhikr is unfortunately not helping to bring peace from my addiction, especially the physical symptoms.

I know this is just shaytan tricking me, but it really feels the only way I can get rest and peace is turning back to my comfort zone of drugs.

Does anyone have some experience with this? I fear I will fail and relapse, and advice I read elsewhere doesn’t seem to work. Please help.

Thank you.

Physical symptoms are to be expected at this stage, especially as you have stopped suddenly a short while ago. But with time, in sha Allah your desire to go back to drugs will become less and less and your physical symptoms will get better as your body gets used to being free from the effects of drugs. Have you tried getting support for drug addiction? There are organisations which can provide help and advice regarding this.

Keep up with your prayers and dhikr. Try to read about the meanings of what we recite in prayer and about the inner dimensions of prayer. Likewise, try to read the translation of the surahs you read. In this way, it is more likely to impact your heart and in sha Allah you will benefit more.

May Allah make it easy for you and help you to get closer to Him, Ameen.

Bro you literally need to go to the hospital. You can’t just quit drugs cold turkey because it can lead to seizures even death since your body isn’t used to being sober… PLEASE GO TO A HOSPITAL
