Prophecies in Islam

When the prophet saws foretold events of the future, how does he receive these prophecies? Are they through dreams or are they revealed to him by Allah? I tried doing a search but lots of irrelevant links shows up.

Prophet peace be upon him doesnt speak from his desire. It is revelation of Allah. These prophecy he peace be upon him said is revelation of Allah.
