Queen Mary uni....

salam, just wonderig if there is anyone here going to study at queen mary uni in London or someone who is already a student there. I was only wondering how the uni is like, in terms of atmosphere, the teachers, the students and stuff. Are there a lot of muslims there and this may be silly to ask but are there many practicing sisters there wearing the hijab, and how is it like??????

Hope to get some answers and jazakAllah khair in advance. :)

I don't personally go there, but one of my mate does. She's at the Mile end campus studying biology. Alahamdulillah she is in her last year now! She herself is practising,and has many mates who are also practising.. and i think there are many muslims there too :D

Im not sure about all the other stuff like atmosphere, teaching, etc. but it is one of the top uni's in london, so it must be good :D

i dont go queens mary, but what you should be asking is how the Islamic Society is. And from what i have seen their islamic society is very strong, they hold weekly talks, etc
 
Yes they do have a very strong Islaamic Society so I'm sure you can find practising people there.

As for the Uni itself, then sorry, I have no idea. :X
 
yeah i was jus gonna say dont worry about there being practicing sisters coz mashAllah nearly every big uni u go to has an islamic society, so like a magnet all of the muslims kinda get drawn together lol

I have a friend who studied law there. as far as i knw its very good and the atmosphere is always buzzing ifu know what i mean. u wont feel lonely.

What u gonna study?
 
they have the best talkers on the annual islamic dinners, all other unis kill their ones:mmokay: but but....
its good but not as good as westminster uni:D

come there and get a free goody bag (whilst stocks last):p
 
jazakAllah for the reply you lot. I've also heard that they have a big islamic society and so i guess there should be a number of muslims there.

I don't know why but goin off to uni feels like a complete new world, and i really don't know what to expect from it, it's a complete new place and you don't have your old friends there. But InshAllah i'm hoping for the best.

I know exactly how you feel, it was my first year 2 years ago and now im in my 3rd year! time flies when ur having fun! lol It really is daunting, the first few weeks will be the most scariest and the most confusing, getting use to all the lectures, seminars, and the general university life...but believe me you will get use to it, and will make new mates as well. you'll start to enjoy it once u have gotten use to it and when you've got mates to enjoy the experiances with you.
Just dont worry inshallah you will be fine and will wonder why you were ever worried! :D

Just be happy, enjoy ur studying and have fun :D

I go to QM. My 2nd year now Alhamdulilah. I'll try to answer the questions the best I can. The university is great, part of University of London. You'll get a good job InshaAllah. Most of the lecturers read of the powerpoint slides with some giving extra information. There are many practising Muslims including Hijab wearing sisters.

There is a lecture every Wednesday.
