question about hijab!

i would really love to start wearing hijab on a daily basis i have been looking on line about buying one but what i want to know is will any shawl do as a hijab or does it need to be a special one designed for hijab purposes?
 
The purpose of hijab is to cover yourself. Any shawl will do, but some styles are more convenient.
 
welcome to the forums. if you want to wear a shawl, just make sure that your hair is covered, and other necessary parts is covered, inshaAllah. usually shawls are shorter than hijabs.

The Purpose of a hijab is it must cover ur hair the hijab u r wearing should not be tight and it is good if it is of dark color.

the prayer Taubah is a 2 rak'at prayer.

With due respect sisters, purpose of hijab is not just to cover hair, rather if u read Quran it orders to cover trunk & that part of that shawl(outer covering) that u use to cover trunks should be taken over ur heads as identification of being modest so that no one would tease u.... that's what Quran says. I am not pasting verses here coz Mr.Malik(a mod) deleted them twice, he apparently doesn't like quran & sunnah. Read Quran:24:31 & 33:59 & Abu dawood:27:4092, urself.



By stressing too much on covering hair & not mentioning trunk covering, leads to muslim female attire we often see especially in west, like tight t-shirt, tight jeans with just a scarf covering the head.

Although I may not be Muslim, I do still wear hijab. :) I love wearing the headscarf, my favourite part :)

I was wondering, any sisters know of any good places for scarves in Canada/Ontario?
Both stores and online shops?

I'm always looking for new ones :P
 
Firstly alhamdulillah, it is very good u are taking this step. Like other people have mentioned hijab is not just covering the head but other parts of the body such as chest etc.. I think its usefull to get a big scarf so wen u wear it it covers the chest at the same time. Also there are videos on youtube to show how to wear one. Many sisters do wear it but not correctly, you shouldnt show your chest, neck or earrings off.. anything that makes it look attractive.

personally I find pashminas easiest to wear ... they are big and cover everything that has been ordered to cover ...

anythin u can wrap around ur face is a hijab, a hijab isnt litterally those things, hijab means like a cover.Not a clothing item so enythin uw ant go ahead sister. Just remember ur protecting ur modesty cuz i dont think ud wanna b raped or molested in some other guys heart.1900 girls daily get raped in america and u need to protect urself from tht.In jannah, the girls who did pardah(hijab) will be the queen of 70,000hoors and angels :P cya
 
There are several conditions to hijab sister other than just covering your hair.
You have to make sure it's not tight by showing the shape of your body and not revealing, meaning it can't be see through InshaAllah. It should be big enough to cover your chest. Everything should be covered other than your hands and face normally.

Btw someone said a shawl is too small. It's not too small...you can get shawls that properly cover. I prefer using that since it covers all around me, Alhamdulillah.
