Assalamu Alaikum

I need some verification on whether there are signs in Makkah that prohibit nonMuslims from entering the city. A friend of mine is doing research and has heard that the pics on the internet are fake, so if anyone has been there and remembers whether they have seen signs similar to the ones below, just let me know asap!

I am curious, as to why those signs are there. Anyone know the answer?

Entry forbidden for Non-Muslims

Non-Muslims are not permitted to enter Mecca by Saudi law.[3][45]

Many religious scholars say this discrimination exists because Mecca was once a city where Muslims - including the prophet Mohammed - were persecuted and driven out. When Mohammed and his followers reclaimed the city, it was declared a sanctuary.[citation needed]
"Non-Muslim Bypass:" Non-Muslims are not permitted to enter Mecca.

The Saudi government uses the following verse as a Qur’an confirmation for this law; however, there are other interpretations to this verse (in particular, People of the Book would usually not be regarded as pagans):[46]

"O ye who believe! Truly the Pagans are unpure; so let them not, after this year of theirs, approach the Sacred Mosque. And if ye fear poverty, soon will God enrich you, if He wills, out of His bounty, for God is All-knowing, All-wise." -- Qur’an, 9:28

The existence of cities closed to non-Muslims and the mystery of the Hajjs aroused intense curiosity in people from around the world. Some have disguised themselves as Muslims and entered the city of Mecca and then the Grand Mosque to experience the Hajj for themselves. The most famous account of a foreigner's journey to Mecca is A Personal Narrative of a Pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina, written by Sir Richard Francis Burton.[47] Burton traveled as a Qadiriyyah Sufi from Afghanistan; his name, as he signed it in Arabic below his frontispiece portrait for The Jew The Gypsy and El Islam was al-Hajj 'Abdullah.[citation needed] Individuals who use fake certificates of Muslim identity to enter may be arrested and prosecuted by Saudi authorities.[48]

Yes thts true tht we have this sign on all higways going towards makkah........
but u know rish arabs how hire non muslims as their drivers enter makkah driving for them...........This is the reason i hate thses saudi arabs who dont value the teachings of our beloved prophet....

Is this prohibition of non Muslims to Mecca would the same if the Vatican started not allowing non Catholics to visit it? I have seen arial shots of it and it is a beautiful city.

This is true. By the way this picture
is taken from an Anti-Islamic website. Please do not link anything from there. Thank you.

You sound as if you do not live in Saudi Arabia yet your location says other wise. The answer is no, why? Because there are guards that check I.D's of every car and driver that come and go from and to mecca.

thats a gross generalisation and quite racist...

The Vatican is considered the seat of the Roman Catholic Church a holy place for pilgrims. At present all are welcome to visit Vatican city. If they decided to limit admission to only Catholic would that be the same thing as only Muslims being allowed to enter Mecca?

I think the Catholics should do with their cities as they please no?
Further, I know of Muslims who save for a lifetime for this pilgrimage and unfortunately pass away before making it, as even with the expansion they can only accommodate so many Muslims yearly, and for many (who make mistakes) it is a done deal, they can't simply afford to go back and perform their religious rites over and over until one pilgrimage is done correctly. This is a serious obligation on those who can afford it, it isn't a tourist spot ..

I frankly don't know what Catholics do in the Vatican but certainly if they feel tourism will prohibit proper fulfillment of their religious rites then by all means they should impose all the prohibitions they desire!

all the best

I am not protesting that non Muslims are forbidden from entering Mecca . I was just asking if it would be the same thing if the Catholic Church decided to allow only Catholics to enter Vatican city. Saudi Arabia is a soverign nation and is entitled to make its own laws.
