Thank you for your thoughtfullness...
Now, I think if religion centered around rewards and punishment as is portrayed in the media or often talked about through blogs, it would be a grievous thing indeed...
that is not what I personally get out of it.. but I believe that your views of God and religion, theology in general evolve as you grow old.. I don't want to use a wine or a cheese analogy.. but there are layers that go from the superficial to deep... and you'll get out of it, what you personally put into it.. if one holds on to sophmoric ideaologies, then I am afraid it won't be anything more than a focus on rewards or punishment...
to me there is a sense of peace, purpose, fulfillment, desires, and a chance at immortality and bliss with all my lost loved ones... wherever I go I know Allah swt will be my champion, guradian, and friend...
Now you might think differently.. but even through inauspicious events, I can always see where he had a direct hand at making it easy for me.. when you say he doesn't listen or respond I highly disagree...
let me share another story that happened two tuesdays ago..
I have been having problems with my car every day, my bro. took it to get fixed before I came down here, and the mechanic charged a bazillion bucks to have everything done from new battery to wires etc...I am now away from my home town so I can't even take it to get looked at..
on tuesday, it wouldn't start as usualy, I gave it a go as I usually do several times to no avail, and I was going to be late for morning rounds so I left it behind and grabbed a cab, was in the worst possible mood, picked phone screamed at me brother, made him feel really bad, which made me feel bad in the process... anyhow, during break, took another cab home, and decided to look under the hood see if something was amiss... my friend managed to find the maintenance guy from the building who was actually a former mechanic. He came down did his thing, I let the car run for 30 minutes and really had no idea where to take it to have it looked at.. while recharging it, it died again, as another guy was pulling into the garage, he came and gave it a jolt... I left and went to a gas station, where I found a bearded guy and asked him if he knew any good mechanics, he kept giving me directions, then told me, 'just follow me', so I did, and I ended up at midas (it is a popular chain mechanics) here in states which I was grateful for, as I pull into their drive way, the car dies... which was astounding...
I could ***** and whine over why my pathfinder can't find any path and is so crappy, or I can be grateful that throughout the entire day Allah swt sent me one guy after the next to help me, and spared me the car dying during the drive or a shady shop, but right at the very moment where I pull into the mechanics' shop it died so they'll know exactly what is wrong with it..
Now I can tell you as I pulled in there, I know nothing about cars and felt like they would tak advantage of me, but they diagnosed it for free, and it turned out to be something called a 'pulley' that wasn't making contact with alternator which also explained that bloody awful noise it made every time I drove.. the whole thing cost me $39 al7mdlilah.. and I got it the same day... in fact I spent more on taxis that day than having it fixed..
moral of the story, when you hand yourself to Allah completely and have faith, he really will take care of you.. I can't say I had the best disposition but with every step I asked only for his help that day... and no matter how bad off you are, you are really never alone.. he sends his help to you through his many instruments...
Anyhow this was one example out of many.. the best thing any of us can do, is just live to serve him, and the gains are truly staggering...
sob7an Allah... Sob7an Allah il3atheem..
peace
