Assalaamu alaikum,

I have a question about something which I am ashamed about and I know I have committed a major sin and shall ask Allah for forgiveness:

I watched pornography and masturbated whilst fasting which led me to ejaculate. I know this breaks my fast. I wanted to ask whether I have to only fast the qadhaa for it or complete kaffarah for it? I was thinking just the qadhaa but can someone confirm for me please?

Also, I read somewhere else that if you have broken your fast in this manner, then one must still refrain from eating and drinking for the rest of the day. Unfortunately, i didn't know of this before( whether it's true or not?) and I ate some food only once before finding this information. Does this have any implications for me? And is this statement true or not?

I hope someone can answer my questions, JazaakAllah

In this case, one would first have to repent and then make up the fast. Therefore, one only needs to make up the actual day of fasting that was invalidated and the major expiation of two months' consecutive fasting would not be obligatory in this case.

Invalidating one's obligatory fast is not a small matter for the Prophet, may Allah bless him and give him peace, said,

"Whoever breaks a fast-day of Ramadan without an excuse or dispensation could not requite it by fasting a lifetime, were he to do so [A: meaning that making up that day, while obligatory, does not remove the sin, though repentance does.]" (Reliance of the Traveler, p10.0).

In addition to this, if the fast was broken by something unlawful, such as masturbation, one should be more fearful of the consequences of his action and repent to Allah sincerely. One should intend never to repeat this again, and to avoid the things that lead him to this.

And Allah knows best.

S my brother you must never repeat such an action again whilst fasting as it maybe that even if you make up this fast that it will not suffice in terms of the huge amount of reward that you missed out on, due to breaking the fast. Such rewards can never be regained by making up the fast due to breaking it. So ask of Allah sincerely to forgive you and ask of him to help you to overcome this habit and in the very least to help you prevent from doing it whilst fasting lest you break your fast.
