me too!!! the rabbi never came back after this section was closed for the month of ramadan. :unhappy:
we really need a jew in the house!
I agree.

I fear that for political reasons Jewish members weren't always being made to feel very welcome here ...:(

Personally, the 'Questions about ...' threads are my favourite in the Comparative Religions section, because they encourage us more to just read and learn from each other's faiths, rather than trying to argue and debate.

We don't seem to have many non-Muslims here anymore at all.
A few Christians, agnostics and atheists, a Sikh, a Buddhist, and that's about it ... oh, and there was a Jedi recently ... :D

I miss our Jewish members, but also representatives of other faiths.

Perhaps we should seriously consider our attitudes to those of other faiths and worldviews, and how welcome we really make people here ...

Am I being too harsh?? :?

i think we have a whole bucket of non-muslims here.
we've had hindus before and we seem to have a new (preachy) one.
yes, sometimes people are mocked and insulted and scared off and that's wrong, to be sure. but actually the rabbis we've had seemed mature enough to take it in stride.

And Lavikor is the bravest of all Jews... he started a thread about Judaism in an Islamic forum... it's like opening Israeli embassy in Saudi Arabia.

And quite popular among Muslims too... the first time I've heard about "Noahide Laws" and Muslims would go to heaven in Judaism perspective.

i agree - he was the first and lavikor was not only a jew, but an israeli - so yes, he was indeed brave. i think he was widely respected here for the most part, even by those very critical of israel.

No wonder that his restaurant in Haifa are frequented by Muslim Arabs.

Similarity #: 1
Law of Hammurabi

An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth
(Article 196) “If a seignior has destroyed the eye of a member of the aristocracy, they will destroy his eye.” (Article 200) “If a seignior has knocked out a tooth of a seignior ... they will knock out his tooth.”

Law of Moses

Eye for eye, tooth for tooth
“... you will appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot ...” (Exodus 21:23-24 NASB)

Similarity #: 2
Law of Hammurabi

Sorcerer to be drowned to death
(Article 2) “The one against whom the charge of sorcery was brought, upon going to the river, will throw himself into the river, and if the river has overpowered him, his accuser will take his estate.”

Law of Moses

Sorcerer to be put to death
“You will not allow a sorceress to live.” (Exodus 22:18 NASB) (Leviticus 20:27) Now a man or a woman who is a medium or a spiritist will surely be put to death. (NASB)

OK, I have seen similarity among law of Hammurabi and Law of Moses, anybody wish to explain this similarity??? This is very strange!!!

it may be a very long wait. our household jews seem to have gone in deep freeze mode. :unhappy:

Maybe Hammurabi was a prophet too...or one of his advisors was a prophet...

or maybe Hamurabbi was a believer of a prophet's teaching...

who knows?

Well, I found several Jewish forums on the net. Some are moderated by rabbis. I wonder if any of our former contributors might be on them?

Re: Questions about Judaism awnsered by a Jew!

Jews will go to heaven if they are good people, and follow G-d's law.
Non-Jews will go to heaven if they follow the 7 Laws of Noah. (Just 7 laws guys... you can do it!)

Why should a person ie. a jew follow 613 laws when they can get into Heaven with only 7? Why not just convert to another religion, which does not forbid these 7, and follow them as well? Is there sin for converting, like breaking a promise or something?

I'm sure Babylonians were polytheists though? Didn't they have idols which were shaped like human-headed lions with curly beards?
