what is in foul midamis?
It looks tasty...
Fava beans an Egyptian stable..

Pancakes.... MMM...

Pass me some butter and syrup and I'll make those things disappear.

they were surprisingly good, made me wonder why I buy them from stonewall kitchen at all if they're relatively easy to make and so incredibly filling..

These two are my favorite though..

Not necessarily true, I'm afraid. There are varieties of confectionery that we are told by the manufacturers are not halal, on sale in Saudi, with the same ingredients. Also, the famous al-Baik chain of fast food shops (amongst others) import meat from abroad, and nobody can verify if it is halal.

There is no clear assurance as to how foreign products that get imported into Saudi are checked for their halalness.

You have to be as vigilant whilst there as you are here. Sorry to break the bubble.

I was told they even managed to get pig products in some famous super markets in Saudi but they were taken off right away.. it does make me worry a bit but still relatively easier to shop you know when I was in Egypt I constantly asked in restaurants if the food was Halal.. they had 'bacon' on the menu and I was outraged but they kept assuring me that not only was it smoked beef but that everything in Egypt is Halal. It is a relief to go from shelf to shelf and pick up products without having to look out for mono & diglycerides and Lecithin and gelatin etc. etc.
They really love their pigs in the U.S it has to infiltrate everything even beans.. have you ever heard of having to look for 'vegetarian beans' apparently they must come laced in lard.. ugh ughhhhhh

Ok, if I ever decide to eat breakfast again, you're cooking the pancakes. I want those cinammon apple ones...

There's a reason why we're so fat. In the USA, grease is an ingredient.

Salaam everyone!

:sl:

Brother TT, I don't know where you get all these pics of tasty food, but dude, you are KILLING me right now...

Two hours to go here...

Google images is your fwend! :)

I know how you feel. It's tough.

How disappointing...have scholars raised this issue to the Saudi Monarchy?

Allaahuma Aameen.

It is quite difficult, a good reminder for us, remember them in your du'aas dear brothers and sisters especially before opening your fast inshaa'Allaah, that the great food we taste during Iftaar, they may taste it also and also the clean water granted to us is granted also to them, be thankful for every drop that enters your mouth.

It is about 110 calories per serving.. I agree that people are fat in the U.S but I don't think pancakes are to blame. It is the large quantity, the frequency and the types of foods.. people can substitute doritos for carrot sticks or even granola bars but they prefer processed cheese with a hint of pig over dry tasteless chips.. I don't personally understand why but they have to fill whatever void they have with food..

anyhow I recommend indeed the apple cinnamon and coconut pancakes both are a personal favorites and couple them with real syrup not corn syrup with so-called maple flavor.. or use coconut syrup or apple cinnamon syrup etc etc..

Well not just the food, but also because we've become lazy. I include myself in that category. I hate exercise and avoid it whenever I can. Such has become the mentality of most people in the USA.

Anyway, I'm going to look around for some of those pancakes. I haven't had any good ones in a while...

I think your being too hard on yourself. You don't sound lazy to me.

I do a good job of covering it up. :D

No, it's something I have been working on, trying to overcome that. Sometimes I am successful, other times I am not.

Don't I know that one? I made that mistake once. I went to the store to buy "a couple of things" and went home with $200 worth of stuff.

Assalamualaikum

*Done*

I had a lonely iftar by myself consisting of yesterdays leftovers and the generous neighbours cooking:

And this home-made baby for dessert...

Assalamualaikum

My technical skills have failed me and I almost give up trying to upload pictures from the DSLR! Anyway I decided tiny pictures are better than none although they do no justice to the food!! I still havent managed to incorporate the images with the text (?)

Sister Pearl, I also learned thru hard way, to upload images here.
You will have to upload images in a photo sharing website, like flicker or imageshack. In imageshack u just upload ur images which u want to show here,
after u upload u will c "links to share your image" in imageshack,u simply copy the forum code of the image from imageshack.Click the link button here and paste the code of that image.Hope that helps, looking forward to see ur iftar again.

^ Sister instead of link button it will be easy if you copy the image address then click on the icon in which there is a scenery type of thing then a box will be displayed on your screen then paste the link. Click OK. Or else just write

You pictures are not visible :hiding:. Follow the above instructions and please post the images :D.
