I don't think you've ever used a Thinkpad, have a look why they can cost up to $7000

lol my whole family uses dell, and we've had absolutely no problems for 5 years and counting.

I've set up several IBM's at work and those machines are tough. They get traveled around the country almost everyday and last for years.

Are apple lap tops good? Do laptops have wireless Internet where in the home they can roam around anywhere and get wi fi? I'm planning before I get old. I hope to get a laptop when 50,do hajj inshAllah, retire then post away on LI.

bro it all depends what your needs are, if you want a dcent laptop then get a Toshiba or HP. If you want like warranty, service etc then I suggest a dell but they are not the best laptops but there service is very good if anything goes wrong.

Quick question to those who know about processors:

Is there any significant difference between the following three processors for a laptop that's going to run Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Premium 64-bit?

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T6400 (2.00GHz)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40GHz)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)

It's a $100 upgrade from the T6400 to the P8600. And between the T6400 and the P8700 there's a $150 upgrade. Is it worth it?

if you want top specs go for dell, because they will cram the best stuff in the cheapest price

but if you want a light solid laptop go for thinkpads but they're too expensive

Brother they are amaZing. But it would depend on ur usage. Also apple laptops are very expensive.

I personally like my Dells. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and a Dell Mini 10. I love both of them like my own children. Masha'Allah, they just growing so fast. When I bought it, was a cute little 0 MB laptop. Now, Subhanallah, my babies have grown over 250 MB. They just grow too fast.

I can always recommend apple macbook for graphic works. But for IT it wouldn't be the best as you will have to work with some apps that are not running on mac. They are pretty expensive too, buying windows laptop in your case you will get more for the money.

I would avoid glossy display. If you really work with the computer and not only play around glossy display can lead you into madness...(almost)...
Intel core 2 duo processor are all quite good, never mind about that, you are not going to cut movies or anything, so just dont buy the slow intel core duo.
Some laptops have a special modus for saving energy which cant always switched off. If the laptop is not connected with the power cable, the display will not work in full bright. Sometimes it is pretty dark. So if you want to use the laptop outside and dont have electricity around you should ask for this.
Some are also very noisy and are getting very hot.
In general buying a dell computer the value for money is quite good. But of course they have slow and overpriced computers too. Sometimes supermarket offer special laptop. It seems to be a good offer but you will pay for features you dont need (most of them are good for gaming) and some of them are very slow.
